Do you have colleagues who don’t pull their weight and are always borrowing without doing their own work?

All the time. Teachers think they have patents on their ideas. Most are very selfish.

I would ask them, for example...Ive heard you have an awesome lesson about_______. Can I give it a try? I used to share everything all the time, until I had an admin who ordered me to do it...I wasn't as willing after that. Not that my lessons were gold or anything, but the order rejected any idea that I had spent hours of my own time thinking, creating and planning them. If folks ask though, I'm perfectly happy sharing.

In my experience teaching, there are way more takers than givers. Which is true in life too I suppose.

I don't mind sharing if it benefits the students and I don't feel like I'm carrying other teachers all the time. I think it's flattering. Ideally, there should be a shared drive for everyone to share their resources.

I feel that sharing lessons and getting new ideas ideas from others benefits everyone.

Honestly no, I haven’t had that issue.

No, I haven’t experienced this.

Nah

Ugh this used to happen all the time at my school! It’s finally gotten better

I’ve had others who ask for plans, resources, etc. and never share but I still try to help them when I can since it’s what’s best for kids.

I have never asked or relied on other teachers for material; in my department, that behavior does not fly. We are expected to make all of our own material.

I’m particular on certain things. I have teachers in my school that completely rely on others to get their work done for them. With those teachers, I am absolutely the one who refuses to share....they need to pull their weight. I’m also hesitant to share some things because there are teachers...1 in particular....who will take credit for everything whether it’s hers or not 😬😬 I am willing to share....I really am...pull your own weight and give credit where credit is due!

Thought I'd share this for inspiration. I was eating right and working out for the past few weeks and my weight on the scale was not budging which in turn was demotivating me. Yesterday was my first rest day and cheat day. I also slept a full 8 hrs. This morning I stepped on the scale and voila! Down 6 lbs. This has motivated me to keep pushing. Another 15 lbs to my target. lesson learned - Trust the process!

Have any of your firms or law departments planned firm or department-wide fundraisers, pro bono projects, or volunteer events that specifically offer legal assistance to combat racial inequality? We can donate money or time individually, but a small group of us at my firm are brainstorming ideas that would make a bigger impact with some sort of large scale effort. Such a daunting concept. Any ideas, lessons learned or cautions would be much appreciated!

I have been unhappy about my current job for a bit now, been at the company for almost 10 years, and have started looking for a new job. I have a solid job offer on the table, but a newer PE group just reached out and are looking for a high level either VP or Director of retail sales (my specialty). I am more interested in this private equity group as I would get to build a whole team and really make a retail strategy but they are newer so I am unsure the stability. Good luck to those who are going into their first busy season! Yes, it’s daunting at first - we’ve all been there (albeit, not in a remote environment amidst a pandemic.) My best advice is to take one day at a time (marathon, not a sprint). Remember audit/tax/consulting is not life or death, and you WILL make it through. Have patience with yourself and your teams. Find a mentor! Don’t forget you can always find some moral support (read: self-deprecating humor) in your fellow fish!
