Do any of you struggle with the "tell me about the most stressful situation" interview questions? It feels inappropriate to talk about my non-business experience here, but the interviewers have my CV and know that I was in military. And it was way more stressful than consulting. How do you all handle this?

Not at all. Those are very valuable and differentiated stories to be able to tell. You just need to practice. Make sure you understand what your point is, make sure someone who isn’t a veteran can follow, and make sure you don’t make it too bloody or whatever.

Be objective. Have a pointed lesson learned. End on a high note. Be open but show confidence and growth

I mix up my answers to “tell me about a time where you...” with corporate and mil examples based on the question. For example, if the question is about dealing with a difficult client, I’ll use a consulting example. If the question is about dealing with an ambiguous problem or a stressful situation, the war stories will come out. You don’t want to lean too hard on one set of experiences - the recruiter should know that your mil experience counts towards relevant experience.

This is good advice. Show em you can do both!!

This is good feedback. If I had a practiced response for that question, it would have been fine. It was about a year ago that I was asked to think of my "most stressful experience" and I honestly can't think of anything in consulting that is truly stressful. I'm a submarine vet and the situation was extremely technical. I probably could have responded better if I had practiced, but I fixated on the "most" part of the question and didn't use any of my go-to situations. I ended up getting the offer (turned it down) but that was definitely an awkward portion of the interview. Now I realise it was mostly because it wasn't a thought-out / practiced response. Thanks for the responses everybody!

Had my Green Card (AOS) interview today for a marriage based application. We did not receive an immediate decision after the interview. One item cited by the officer was the expiration of I-693 medical records (it’s been over 2 years since we filed). Coincidently, as per new USCIS guidelines, they’ve extended the validity of I-693 to 4 years due to covid. I didn’t know this or else I would’ve called it out. I’m hoping this doesn’t generate an RFE. Anyone here with a similar experience? Any RFEs?

What’s a good answer to the question “Why are you leaving so soon?” For context I have made 2 exit since last year. I was below average at the start of the pandemic and now quite a bit on the upper range. In each instance I was either approached by the recruiter or the hiring manager. Even now the most recent interview was when the company approached me through LinkedIn but still they asked me this question which is quite confusing. I mean you approached me and I like the work you do.

Been getting a ton of recruiter outreach messages lately, and a lot of them are attractive roles that I would never even be on a shortlist for. I'm a mid-range analyst at best. Anyone else getting these messages too? Is the market really that thin? I find it a bit unbelievable because I spent two years unemployed and barely getting interviews prior to COVID.
