I’m sure this won’t come across well but I have to say it… my husband and I make good money (about $600k combined) and are grateful for it but these Biden tax increases are going to kill us. The truly rich don’t get hit hard meanwhile it sucks to be an upper middle class family. No matter how much I make somehow my take home seems to keep going down.
Is it socially / professionally OK to request to leave an engagement? If yes, how do you go about doing so or what reasons seem acceptable? I’ve started looking up other engagements and my reason is the clients attitude is a bit unbearable, creating a difficult working env. to thrive in and probably detrimental to my career and mental health. Do I sound like a complainer or is this OK to do? Keep in mind, the clients employer as well as EY is aware of clients attitude and had several HR conv. w/
If I have half a month, 12/18-12/31, without insurance, are there any tax implications? IRS explanations feel fine??? But hope to see if anyone has this experience! Thanks!
Help! I’m reviewing a contract for a new (in-house, freelance) design gig, and I don’t love these terms: 1) Non-compete for 2 years for same industry 2) Must have liability insurance for up to 2 million while there (didn’t know this existed honestly) 3) Must give 30 day notice if leaving (I’m fine with 2 weeks…but 30 days?!) …Any advice on how to best negotiate any of these? Are they standard? (Note: I posted this in another bowl but curious about this bowl’s take too)

Trying to figure out how to manage health issues and work balance. I just recently found out I might have herpes (waiting for the test results to come back) and I have been very and feeling like my life is over especially because it came from being cheated on and struggling with prioritizing my bandwidth and not knowing how to communicate it with my team. Due to stigmas around something as common as herpes I cannot comfortably share that with my team.
Anyone else feel like we’re all getting a raw deal on healthcare? Switched to industry and one 30 minute doc appointment is $450 out of pocket.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Free and Reduced Lunch, pensions, health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard, caring for your neighbor, and PUBLIC EDUCATION. That’s just a small list of things I’m told I should hate because they’re all socialist. I’m not at all sorry to report that I’m FOR all of those things. Call me whatever you want.
Transitioning from contract to full time position. I’m making 104k contracting (shitty but manageable insurance, no other benefits.) Should I ask them to match it? How much should I ask for?
So far I’ve been through 1 IVF cycle. I have one embryo that is frozen waiting for transfer. My doctor is wanting me to do another round of IVF to back eggs for baby number two down the road. Has anyone been through this? I know of two people around my age that got pregnant naturally with their second baby after IVF. Does anyone know about banking embryos for future use instead of transferring? My insurance doesn’t cover anything so all this of out of pocket.

Partners and future partners, if you made the salary you are currently making annually, and through increasing client fees and gaining efficiencies through technology, nobody worked more than 40 hours a week, would you be ok with that or would you think you are leaving money on the table and would want to get more and increase hours to 45-50? My main question is if we could achieve 40 hour weeks would you be satisfied or will you want to get hours up to what you’re used to?
Hi 🐠, have a trip coming up that I could use some advice for. Have to book a non-refundable economy trip to Osaka, can fly from Philadelphia or New York. United 1k with lots of GPU/miles (continued)
I know this is potentially a controversial topic but, do you believe some content areas, grade levels or positions (i.e. specialist or special Ed teacher) have an intrinsically harder job/more intense workload than others? Or, is workload more dependent on the ideals of individual teachers, not their position? In my opinion, High School Social Studies and English have the most labor/work the longest hours. But I’m curious what others think.
Is it worth it to get a professional certification like SHRM/PHR? Not many of my colleagues have one and it’s not a requirement for my role, but I’m curious if it’s worth it in the long run

How do you get past imposter syndrome? Someone more senior than me is encouraging me to apply to a role that I feel totally unqualified for. I’ll be having a convo next with where I tell my manager I got another offer, how do I ask for a counter offer without demanding one? All the things I’m looking for (WFH, title change) are things I’ve been asking for. For example,I’ve been doing the EP role for a year without the promotion.
Can somebody please explain to me why MBB and other top consulting firms are so adamant that you have an MBA? I majored in accounting, finance, and operations management at a top 10 undergrad business school and then got my masters in information systems from the grad school program. I took multiple MBA courses as electives when getting my masters and it seemed like those classes were very basic and easy. Idk if I would learn anything in an MBA program that I hadn’t already learned in undergrad
Hey everyone has anyone switched to a diff big4? I am having issues on my team where they don’t think Im at level, but my team has not been good at feedback and or coaching I am an A2. I had been thinking of moving to another big 4 for awhile but being blindsided by where they think I am at, which I don’t necessarily agree with fully , is pushing me away more. Is it normal for PwC to downgrade you from a sr position you applied on their job portal to a experienced associate? I was told I will be fast tracked and the offer they gave me is on par with the base salary of a SA. Seems like I can’t negotiate the position.
