Some do, some don’t. So, as unhelpful as it may be, as with so many things in our profession, “it depends.”

I think Sidley and Paul Weiss does. Kirkland and Latham doesn’t. Only firms I can speak on

Anyone have guidance for naturalized US citizens on giving Power of Attorney to parents/family living in India for land/property? I would like my parents to act on my behalf on land I own in India.
The family lawyer in India drafted up a letter and is suggesting I sign and get it attested here in the US. Not sure who would attest this document with Indian details (site address etc). Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Billable hour question: is anyone else just completely incapable of keeping up with your time? I’ve been an attorney for 3 years now and tried everything I can think of to figure this out but I just can’t do it. It’s the same thing at the end of every month - staying up late entering in an entire month of time. Luckily most clients I work for are flat fee/percentage based but I still feel like a failure for not being able to do this thing that seemingly every other lawyer can do. Any tips?

For those who lived in SF and/or NY before, do you have a preference? NY is great for finance opportunities but heard it's super cut throat. SF is great for tech opportunities and it seems more likely for females to find a relationship here compared to NY because more males than females here. Just by looking online, both places are comparable for rent and are small in apartment sizes. I applied to both finance companies and tech companies doing finance and can't decide what location is better

I’ve been offered a job that starts Feb 1, but my firm pays out bonuses on Jan 31. I’m planning on giving notice in early- to mid-Jan that my last day will be the end of the month. Can I expect to still receive my bonus?

I’m going into a non-lawyer public interest role, so I’m really just hoping to stash my little first year’s bonus into a rainy day fund.

Edit: My start date is completely inflexible.

I started at a v100 firm in NY 6 months ago from a regional firm in the transactions group. Since work has been slow I haven’t had too many opportunities to do good work for partners but I feel I have when given the chance.

However, one partner who is notoriously difficult has given me a number of assignments and is an extreme micromanager and know it all. Now when I get an email from him my stomach drops as nothing positive ever comes out of it. Does anyone have advice on coping with this?
