Do corporate in house roles typically pay more than litigation roles? How difficult would it be to get a non-litigation focused in house role? Soon to be 4th year commercial lit associate in V50.

I was in L&E litigation before going in-house in a non-L&E transactional role. Dumb luck, but I cold applied on their website without even knowing they had an opening. Also worked with another in-house attorney that started as a commercial litigator. So perhaps more difficult but certainly feasible.

Yes, they pay more, but it is going to be pretty tough to get one without any non-litigation experience. I pivoted to non-litigation while in the firm world then went in-house. You also might be able to find a litigation-focused in-house role and pick up other work and make the transition that way.

Good luck, I’ve enjoyed regulatory / product work much more than being a litigator.

We don’t pay more at my company. All lawyers have the same comp scale.

I have an approved I140 for audit position and I transferred from audit to advisory within the firm. Now my PD just became current. the firm attorney think I am still able to submit 485 application due to similar job duties and same OES code. I noticed the SOC code did change between my two H1b filings. I asked the attorney but they don’t think it matters as similar job duties and SOC codes are linked. Should I worry about it? I still work in the same entity and location, but title was changed.

I was recently offered a Zoom interview. I had 10 slots to choose from. I took the first slot available. Three were one day earlier this week and the rest are next week. Does it look good (or desperate, lol) on my part that I took the first time or should I have waited until next week so that I would be fresher on their minds when choosing a candidate? Also, do interviewers still appreciate a handwritten note after an interview?

I put my profile up on Hired on Tuesday with what I feel like is a high minimum base ( 200k ) and I’m getting 5 or more interview requests a day. Am I shooting too low? I’m not really looking to leave my current job, but I wanted to see what’s out there and gauge my worth. ( current base 180 TC ~300 )

Are career coaches specific to one field or specialty, or do they generally have knowledge of a variety of career fields/industries? I understand it may depend on the coach. Wondering if their help would be limited to jobs within the legal (or other relevant) field or if they could help with an entire industry change. Both are helpful, just in different ways.

How long do you think I should try to stick this out before I move on? I want to give the job a real shot - and i know the transition to in-house can be jarring…but I also don’t want to spend too much time in a job that is a wrong fit.
