Do FAANG employees have to sign their life away, be measured, compared, monitored, submit hours, have a ton useless annual training, and prevented from freely investing like the big 4?

Yes. They also have weekly meetings where they are taught fawning songs to sing in praise of their godlike CEO.

No investment restrictions or timesheets but the rest sounds not only like FAANG but lots of big companies

like

No to signing my life away
Yes to measurement and comparison
No submission of hours
No to a ton of useless training
Far less investment restrictions

Far less hours as a norm (peak project hours can be worse)
Far less travel
My total comp is on par or better

Very interesting. Thank you for that explanation.

Just realized I can’t contribute to a Roth since my income is too high (I think). TC ~190k and wife makes around 90k. I’ve only been contributing for a few months now at the advice from a CFP friend (he never asked me what I made). Should I go back to 401k contributions or is there a better option here? I expect my retirement income (via pension) to be higher than my HHI now.

Is it generally recommended that one does not roll over a 401k into a tIRA because it complicates the ability to backdoor Roth? Currently haven’t hit the income limit yet for Roth contributions but recently changed jobs to might take the opportunity to roll my current 401k and existing tIRA to my new employer

I want to spend $10k on a cruise to Antarctica. My wife doesn’t want to go and doesn’t think I should spend the money either. I make 200k and she makes 65k. I worked hard to get a 37k hot skill bonus from all the certs I studied for. We are recently married. I’m discouraged because I feel like I can’t save and spend my money the way I did before. I know marriage is supposed to be united financially, but since we are recently married it’s tough to give up my freedom financially. Advice?

Disclaimer: ignorant on rollovers…trying to mitigate that here.
Currently rolling over my 401k with a previous employer to my current employer, per their requirement.
The previous 401k intuition cut me a couple checks (pre-tax and Roth) and now I’m supposed to mail those to the institution running my new/current 401k.
Does this mean I had to close all my positions (a loss in most cases 📉) and now have to use that lump sum to purchase new funds, albeit a lower price point (at this moment)?

Been living at my parents house for about a year since work is remote. They refuse to take rent or food money. So I bought them about $5K worth of appliances since they bought a new house. I’ll probably be moving out early next year once the office opens up. How much more should I “pay back” to parents? They’ve been too good to me and I’ve saved a lot on rent and food. But they get mad every time I try to pay for things

For those who left a big 4 for in house, how do the comp, hours, and work compare? I’m a senior associate, major market, likely will be partner in the next couple of years, and love the work—but I’m getting really frustrated by the comp and firm management.
