Do firms still look at GPAs in the big law to big law lateral market?

We look at transcripts for all lateral associate hires. The most important thing for me is the writing sample.

My GPA wasn’t great and I wouldn’t have met my current firms cutoff straight out of law school. As a senior associate lateral, I went from first phone interview to offer in 3 weeks (had to travel to NY). I think it matters less as you have more experience. My current law firm wouldn’t even had given me an interview at oci most likely

like

Most firms have a cut off for each law school, waiver with respect to which requires internal approvals. Beyond that, mid-level and above, most firms care more about the quality of your work experience.

like

Yeh typically just a cut-off though, if you are above the bare-minimum cutoff then it doesn’t really matter what your GPA was. It’s a threshold

like

When I transferred none of the firms did (two V20 and one ranked slightly lower but not much). My interviews were entirely fit (do we think you’re smart and will you fit our culture)

Some firms do like Gibson Latham Cravath, you get the point

What is considered a “large” caseload in employment litigation? I work at a large L&E boutique law firm and handling about 14-15 active litigation cases in state/federal court or arbitration. Some of these matters are multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant cases, but none are class actions. This does not include any matters I am handling in the charge stage or in pre-litigation. Not sure if that’s a typical caseload or not?

I moved to the Netherlands 3 months ago on a spouse visa. Was working with EY-P earlier. I have been applying to jobs and giving interviews but for some reason things are not working out. I have worked as a strategy consultant (& a researcher). Should I change lines? Where else can I try?
I can't apply to boutique firms since Dutch is mandatory

Is it hard for someone out of state to lateral into NYC? I saw that some firms require New York State bar, which I don’t have. I am wondering how serious they are about that requirement. I could waive in without taking the bar, but I am still not barred in NY. I am in litigation.

Some good news after almost 11 months of applying and interviews and lots of rejections finally got an offer! In NYC small firm, ex big law folks, no billable hours, niche practice area, appearance of forwarded thinking firm, remote till who knows when, emphasis on pro bono initiatives and building book of business. The catch salary. Was making around 140k at last firm with 1800 billable. Offer is 85k and revist to bump to around 100k in several months after review (plus discretionary bonus)

For IP Litigation folks in life sciences/pharma - what are the likely exit options? Accepted an offer of employment with a mid-sized firm to begin in a couple of months. I’ve always wanted to shoot for big law but haven’t had the opportunity thus far. Overall, I accepted because I didn’t want to take the opportunity for granted in addition to the uncertainty with hiring due to covid. Would it be an issue to shoot for a big law opportunity in the interim? I know how this looks and sounds, so I definitely don’t want to set a precedent that I deal in bad faith.
