Do firms still look at GPAs in the big law to big law lateral market?

We look at transcripts for all lateral associate hires. The most important thing for me is the writing sample.

My GPA wasn’t great and I wouldn’t have met my current firms cutoff straight out of law school. As a senior associate lateral, I went from first phone interview to offer in 3 weeks (had to travel to NY). I think it matters less as you have more experience. My current law firm wouldn’t even had given me an interview at oci most likely

Most firms have a cut off for each law school, waiver with respect to which requires internal approvals. Beyond that, mid-level and above, most firms care more about the quality of your work experience.

like

Yeh typically just a cut-off though, if you are above the bare-minimum cutoff then it doesn’t really matter what your GPA was. It’s a threshold

like

When I transferred none of the firms did (two V20 and one ranked slightly lower but not much). My interviews were entirely fit (do we think you’re smart and will you fit our culture)

Some firms do like Gibson Latham Cravath, you get the point

Also, a more serious question. Was anyone here eating at a caloric deficit before they got pregnant? If so, at what point did you stop? My first appt isn’t for another a few weeks and I’m curious. I know weight gain isn’t crucial until 2nd trimester, but I’m curious about weight loss now. I know some people tend to be sick for a lot of their 1st trimstester and end up losing weight anyway. 🤔

My offer was accepted! Yay! But my offer was $45k over listed price. I’m feeling sick! My realtor and I agreed it was undervalued based on recent comps nearby and there’s a lot of development happening around the neighborhood so I’m hoping the house’s value will continue to go up. I love the house and after months of looking I’m so glad they accepted but I just hate how much over asking I’m paying for. Anyone else immediately feel this way? Make me feel better? Or call me an idiot, idk what…

I am updating my resume and prepping for interviews, but need to refresh my memory on certain specific details. For some work, my former teammates also don’t remember and have left the firm. Do firms let you reaccess docs in these instances so you can remember your work experience? What options are there?

2012 Sr Associate. Left my firm in February after being recruited by a partner I used to work for, and it turns out I’m not very happy. Difficult people, terrible schedule and ruined vacations so far. A partner at my old firm in another group has asked if I would come back to work for just him. I liked working for him, we have great rapport and I could do permanent WFH since he is in another city. I don’t want to burn bridges, would this be a bad idea? Or an easy decision?
