We look at transcripts for all lateral associate hires. The most important thing for me is the writing sample.
My GPA wasn’t great and I wouldn’t have met my current firms cutoff straight out of law school. As a senior associate lateral, I went from first phone interview to offer in 3 weeks (had to travel to NY). I think it matters less as you have more experience. My current law firm wouldn’t even had given me an interview at oci most likely
Most firms have a cut off for each law school, waiver with respect to which requires internal approvals. Beyond that, mid-level and above, most firms care more about the quality of your work experience.
Yeh typically just a cut-off though, if you are above the bare-minimum cutoff then it doesn’t really matter what your GPA was. It’s a threshold
When I transferred none of the firms did (two V20 and one ranked slightly lower but not much). My interviews were entirely fit (do we think you’re smart and will you fit our culture)
Some firms do like Gibson Latham Cravath, you get the point
