Do hotels actually ask for ID if you’re using a company code when booking? A friend of mine gave me her Deloitte spg code and it cuts my hotel price by $100 a night. Thoughts?

Nope. Even once called a hotel ahead of time trying to change something on my res and the agent told me to make sure to have my company id at check in but they never asked for it when i got there

I hear in Asia they ask (if you used it for leisure travel over there). I’ve never been asked for a hotel though Hertz did ask me once

I’ve never been asked. The only time I heard a hotel ask for ID was when someone was using a government code, so you’re probably good

I get asked about once a year... just make up an excuse why I am out of business cards

Sometimes they do. I was asked for ID during a busy week in NYC (the UN and some other high fliers were in town). So had to find another hotel at the last minute. Have always just used the regular corporate hotel rate since then (or a client rate if it gives a better discount).

San Francisco did with a colleague of mine. If you want to be that dedicated, you can make yourself business cards for each company. 😁

In North America it happens but pretty rarely. Elsewhere it is far more common - I’ve been asked in at least a dozen countries, but Germany, Japan and South Africa have been the most consistent. In the US it’s most common when the discount is large, they’re sold out, and/or you look out of place (e.g., you and your drunk friends check in on a Saturday night using a corporate rate).

Some properties insist on seeing ID unless you've booked through the corporate travel portal or have company email on the booking. These tend to be properties where the corporate rate is at a significant discount to the Best Available Rate

Pretty obvious but has anyone else thought about the impact on effective comp that comes with the lack of travel, and the consequences for talent management? Banks are jacking base salaries to the moon, but our industry is barely budging. Consider the loss of food expensing that had netted us hundreds of dollars per week. The lack of payment in lieu of travel on weekends. The rewards points/miles we’re not accruing. The tax-free nature of all of it. Is it any surprise we're hurting for talent?
