Do I need to max out my 401(k) before doing mega backdoor Roth after tax contributions? Or can I pause 401(k) and max MBR to get money into my Roth IRA asap?

Nope, don’t need to max out 401k before doing Mega backdoor Roth. You approach makes sense.

If your firm matches on paycheck basis then by pausing you will lose money. I am just putting enough in 401(k) to get the full match and routing the rest of my contribution to MBR. Will reverse later in the year.

My federal student loans currently have a ~4.5% interest rate. I have a lump sum that could take a significant portion out, but I’m leaning towards investing in VTI instead to outperform the interest rate.

How sound is this strategy and what other investment vehicles should I be looking at?

Guessing I should still leave the down payment in a HYSA (getting 3% right now)? Sucks to miss out on market returns, but I understand that conventional wisdom is not to invest money you'll need in the short term (within 3ish years). I'm definitely tempted to put a portion of that in VTI though...

24, a decent amount of savings in the bank. I’m sort of interested in buying a property in the next few years.
Is this a good or bad idea? I live in Ny area, so obviously the city would probably be too expensive to buy any property. Would probably have to buy further out in westchester, Long Island, maybe connecticut or NJ. If I buy, should I be living there? Or should I rent it out until I’m ready to live there (assuming it’s a bit further from the city). Very early stages of just thinking
