Do I take a job at a more boring company that’s a 41% pay increase and comes with 1% equity?

Current company: a fun and exciting fintech startup that’s about to raise a Seed/Series A. Possible to be promoted in the next year with a pay bump (still likely not as much as the job offer)

Potential company: A marketplace that sells used phones online and has been profitable for 5+ years.

What do you make right now? After a certain point even 41% increase doesn’t matter all that much especially if you should hate your job.

Gotta agree that those would all be some wise decisions to put that money to good use, having some additional side income from your properties and investments might offset how boring you find your job

Funny enough I literally just did what you were offered and was very bored. I ended up going back to the fun company after 3 months! Life is too short, have fun!

Does the new company sound like it would be good for your career trajectory/growth?

I would take a significant pay bump to take on a much more boring job, and I actually did just that earlier this year. I work to afford staying alive and having fun things. I don’t live to work at a company where I convince myself the work I have to be paid to do is “fun.” Work should nourish you and enable you to do the things you want to in your personal life. “Fun and exciting” are usually euphemisms for “long hours and a toxic ‘family’ work culture.”

smart

I do recognize that some people don't feel this way and become miserable if work doesn't stimulate them so it's understandable if you'll stick with the lower pay to enjoy what you do

like

Now me personally, I work to live not live to work. If the work pays well and I'm not being taken advantage of then I care very little what I'm doing on a daily basis. What I really care about is that I can indulge in my personal life, do things I love, and have time to spend and provide for the people I love

like

Sounds like you could have the possibility of getting the raise AND working for a fun company if you stick around. There are countless soulless corps out there that you can work for at any time, but enjoying work is a rarity that few are offered

like

What would you say drives/motivates you? Do you wake up everyday excited about the work you're doing, or is the work more of a means to an end? What are your priorities in life?

Not sure what you should do, but that business model does sound awfully boring haha

May i ask what your current company does that you find so fun?

Ah so would you say it's about how you're perceived? I think being well-off is a way bigger flex than working in an industry with "cool" factor

Stick whatever makes you happy, the money will eventually come

I have recruiters from mid-level firms reaching out to me pretty regularly for tax manager roles, but I honestly don’t feel like I am ready to be a manager. Is it normal to not feel ready? I’ve worked 2.5 yr at a regional firm, made it to senior, now been in industry for almost 2.5 yr as a tax analyst.

How do you make sure you find an industry job that comes with the raise you want (within reason) without having to work more than 45 hours a week? One of my clients emails me at 10pm somewhat regularly. Another never leaves/logs off before 9pm for 5 weeks between quarter end and release of the 10-Q. I’d rather stay at B4 with our 6 weeks of time off per year (PTO + summer and winter breaks) rather than go to an industry job with regular long hours and half the PTO. Thoughts?

Do people realize they’re being creepy, or do they just not care? Brought my 15 year old sister to the gym with me since she wanted to get into lifting, & witnessed a 40ish year old man move in to stand behind her and leer at her the entire set. She moved and he followed her. She moved again to where I was and I literally had to stand behind her to block his view and ask him if he needed something. No, she wasn’t wearing anything revealing. What tf is wrong with people?

If you have any other recs, post them below! We can also iron out and make final decisions together!

1. Can my company withdraw or cancel my clearance if I leave right after I secure a TS?
2. In terms of compensation, how much value (% compensation) does a TS clearance have in the DC area? Places I'm considering: AWS, Azure, GCP, Data bricks, Appian etc.
Any advice, thanks!
