Hi Everyone,
I just received an offer to work as an software sales representative (SDR) for IBMs Z systems. I'm coming as a sales engineer in the cloud security space. Can anyone advise me on whether Z systems are something worth going into? Also what do the growth opportunities look like at IBM? Is there opportunity for lateral movement onto other teams? Not too sure how I feel about working on mainframes (Z systems) but they keep pitching hybrid cloud to me. IBM

If you’ve signed another offer, sure. Don’t resign before you sign!

Does your bonus if you get one come from the conversation at the review? If yes I would wait until after the review…
I did it at my previous job. Basically I said "before you start I have some need for you.. I have an offer from another company.. If you can match/beat their offer, I would consider staying" blah blah.
Gave my notice that same day after my boss talked with her superiors and told me they couldn't match offer.
Same here
Don't tell anyone until you're ready to be shuffled out the door.
Do you have an offer and/or timeline?
Is it 100% certain or are you still organizing?
Only if it’s your two weeks notice.
I agree. No need to tell them early and make that notice period longer or more painful unless you're interested in potentially getting a counter offer or something from them. But even then I think I'd still wait until I was actually ready to leave. I know it's so awkward to have a performance review close to giving your notice though so I understand where you're coming from.
At this point, it’s safe to mention that you’ve been getting bored in the role, not challenged, or frustrated with the way XYZ has been. Maybe your manager can help make a change to improve whatever deficiencies you are seeing. Sometimes you can stay at the same company and still grow via lateral transfer, stretch role etc. This conversation will likely make them worry about you leaving and they will start trying to retain you. Which is a win if you want to stay but also lessens the surprise when you turn in notice after you get an external offer.
Do not say anything to your boss. I did that and it didnt turn out well. Then on my exit interview they asked about my performance reviews and had to explain.
IT Business Analyst 1. They might portray it as necessary, but I guarantee You they have no authority to force you into participating. You can escalate it to the court if you wish. Nothing positive ever have that interview done for an (ex)employee.
That seems like a really bad time to tell them, to be honest. I would put it off until a while after if you can.
Not unless you have signed your offer and you don’t have a performance based bonus. I know it’s hard to not tell a manager you like or respect, but this is business not personal.
In that same vein, if you prefer to stay at your current role, you can utilize a higher offer and leverage. Ask if your manager can match the offer or come close to it. Be kind and respectful, explain you’d prefer to stay but can’t turn down the increased compensation. But again, not during your performance review.
Tell them from the standpoint so that your exit doesn’t impact any work deliverables and at same time you don’t loose any deserved benefits. Balance it out. Nothing personal.. company is much powerful and they can hire an expert with in a flash if they want.
I’d wait
No. Do it afterwards.
Sheesh that's tough, maybe wait till after? At least it won't affect your performance review.
No, wait until after when you're ready to give notice.
If the only opportunity you have to talk with your boss is a semi annual performance review, your boss sucks.
