Does PwC provides joining bonus
Does anyone work at Deloitte that would be willing to refer me? I am trying to make a bit of a career transition to be able to apply my skills and experience in a new and challenging way. I have applying for jobs and networking for almost a year with zero success. I have 4 years of risk consulting and account management experience and wealth of other valuable skills - if anyone is willing to talk to me and possibly help, it would be beyond appreciated!
Title allows for market mobility. Poor titles only help the firm. Titles cost nothing. Some firms will pay you in titles (cool title, subpar comp). Recruiters will filter off of titles so a VP at a bank might be equal to an experienced senior or new manager in consulting.
Your network is the best place to find a job, but it’s always better to have options than not. Compensation will level set everything, but you might be passed over just because of titles.
Source: wife in HR. I read experience and work history when hiring. She does so after filtering titles. Eek, but she says it’s the most consistent and fastest way to do the work.
Subject Expert
I find it varies substantially in industry. I've worked for three industry firms over my career. One of them had 7 levels between entry level and C-Suite, another had 17, if memory serves. My current firm has 9 levels, I believe.
A senior manager in the first and current industry firm is indeed equivalent to a senior manager in consulting. In the firm with a ton of levels, on the other hand, it was the 4th level up and you could hit it in less than 5 years out of undergrad.
Another example is VP in banking. Most banks, with the exception of Capital One to my knowledge, have VP at the equivalent level of SC-M. Friend of mine got hired as a VP at Chase outside of NYC at the ripe old age of 28, I've got a handful of friends at at GS in and outside of NYC who also made VP in their late 20s-early 30s.
Given all that, I discount job titles pretty heavily and instead look at the YOE requirements and the scope of responsibility to determine the appropriateness of the role.

Industry also depends on your function. SA in an ops role might pay $100 and SA in Corp strategy might pay $200 and require 10 YoE. It’s really apples and oranges
It does a bit. I get a bit sick of explaining a D senior manager is a tad different to the senior manager at the local family owned gas station ..
pwc1 - I see it completely the opposite in the bay area interestingly. I moved here from chicago 5 yrs ago. pay here is crazy as well as level of responsibility. a director here at cisco or facebook makes atleast double and manages a budget 2-3 times I do at Cap....
Title progression is more important than the actual title
Sort of a mix. While the position name gives a reasonable expectation of what you should be doing and your responsibility; the experience confirms you are actually doing it, or hopefully what you are doing to exceed the expectations of that level.
It does because if you’re working as a solution architect and have a business analyst title you probably won’t get hired as an architect elsewhere
