Based on other posts for high income individuals, thinking of opening a traditional IRA and converting to Roth. I use Vanguard as my brokerage. Can someone suggest good funds to invest 6k in? With my prior Roth contributions, I have invested in VOO, VTI, VTIVX. Should I just split 6k across these three? I am 40 years old.
I'd say that 9 yrs of exp and getting L5 is a great deal for you! I joined Google 13 years ago at L5 with a MS degree and 23 yrs of exp. , and it took me another 4 yrs to get promoted to L6. So just be happy and move on, and trying to make more big impact after you join to get to L6.
From personal experience, off late a lot of hiring has been happening at L6/7. I was a Manager at a T2 strategy consulting firm (10 YoE in total) and came in as L5 2 years ago. A lot of my peers are currently being hired at L6/7 because of how quickly Google is growing. So I guess being at the right place at the right time helps. And now is the time. If you are in it for the comp dont even bother because you'd probably make less than what you would in consulting. That said the hours are much better. If you're looking to take it easy for now, do take up the L5 offer.

I'm seeing level inflation in sales...not so much in other areas.
L6 is very difficult to get. It’s not about your current title or total YOE but about how much your experience directly relates to that role.
L5 is perfectly reasonable based on this limited information.
You can’t ask for L6, you would have to reinterview, and the likelihood of passing is low. Also possible the role isn’t scoped for L6 and you may lose that opportunity.

Expert with several years of experience delivering that product.
It’s probably 50/50 and depends a lot on your YOE, relevant experience, interview performance, time in role, etc.
It’s very hard/impossible to change level post-offer though.
BCG1 - thanks for the input! I knew changing level post offer is tough hence wanted to ask for L6 at this stage. Seems recruiter is firm on it’s a L5 role hence it is what it is. :-(
Could you share the comp breakdown if possible for this S&O role? Thanks!
Still negotiating. Will post back once it’s finalized.
The recruiter is just conveying the message from the committee decision. Hopefully they will be able to provide you insight as to whether or not you are actually considered for the next level or not. Leveling is, unfortunately, hard to appeal and be successful at. That said L5 is probably in line with your years of experience.
G2 - thank you for the input! Recruiter also told me it’d be an L5 considering the role, years of exp, etc. Thus I guess it’s a done deal on the level now.
Replying here to keep everyone posted. Just got the comps: base + bonus roughy $210K. Sign on $35K. Equity slightly less than $200K. Seems decent considering I live in a tier 2 city. Let me know if any suggestions or comments. Truly appreciate the inputs from all!
RSU can be pushed higher I think. Non-tech L5 I’ve seen a few 225-250k offers on blind and other places.
I have +16 YOE with +10 YOE on people management roles.
I’ve joined Google as L6 IC.
Hope it helps
