Do partners at top consulting firms have better WLB?
An Associate here contemplating whether all this is worth it.
Thanks!

They certainly travel more, which I don’t consider favorable beyond my late 20s

like

They don’t but they get paid 20x so think about what you want in life. If you want chill and average money, think industry

likesmart

^ depends on level. Seen middle managers do this a lot. But at the same time, seen executive level pull pretty much a consulting schedule - back to back meetings all day, frequent travel and apparently late hours (from e-mail traffic)

Yes and no - the work is very different so its hard to compare.

They definitely spend less time “doing” and more time “directing” so if by wlb you mean spending less time doing excel/ppt and getting stuff to people by a deadline then yes wlb is better. They also have more flexible work days

However, with more money comes more problems so the pressures of sales, account & people management is much higher than doing a deck by EOD. Making it a “always on” job.

Thanks a lot P1. That helps!

I’ve heard there’s a huge gap in WLB between B4 and MBB. I know MBB partners grind. Anyone from B4 care to comment?

I think it’s dependent on the group someone’s working at in the Big 4. Big 4 is so massive it’s hard to generalize WLB for the entire firm tbh

What are the best consulting firms to work at if I want to exit to Big tech in few years (after reaching manager)?

So I have completely lost interest in my area of practice mainly because I haven’t been exposed to many matters (our team is really slow) and I am the most junior in the team. So billable work is never constant. I feel like this has impacted my interest and stagnated my growth. I am thinking of moving into a different area of practice that I’m interested in. Has anyone ever done this? I’m actually depressed and I really hate being given work now. I have ADHD. Please advise

Do you think all adhd-ers work better from home? Since transitioning out of the office completely it's been so much easier for me to schedule things around my energy levels rather than try to turn it on for work and off when I get home. Anybody else feel this way or do you love working in the office?

I firmly believe leadership makes the difference.

Not only, it highlins each one's value, but especially spreads this value among others.
I'm speaking about life, in a broad sense, which also include work life, but it is not limited to that.

Looking for any kind of suggestion to improve my leadership: books, experiences, attitudes, daily-routine, ...

Thank you!

All, this is my first post and I just want to share that I passed the first Amazon interview for Technical Program Manager and am heading to on-site virtual interviews! I have 20 years of corporate tech in a traditional F500 company (top 50). The only thing I can say that I like about my current job is the work-life balance and some of the people. But the work itself is soul crushing and the industry is stagnant. To those who are 40+ years old, is it crazy to change now?
