Do people in analytics groups (Quantum Black, Gamma, Lighthouse, etc) get access and exposure to the parent firm's training for general mgmt consultants?

Yes. I’ve had Gamma and DV in all of my big generalist trainings (Regional/Global PL, Regional/Global P)

like

In KPMG Lighthouse we absolutely get access to our firms non-tech training if we want it

like

Adding to BCG1, they’re mandatory for Gamma in Jr. cohort as well. And in day to day, for most cases you’re working side by side with generalists and have direct client interaction.

like

Or what type of non-technical training opportunities and resources are there for those groups? I feel my process of thinking has become really narrow since I've been working in technical roles as basically an engineer

consulting is pretty much an apprenticeship model and we don’t have formal training for much of what we do. Your best bet is to get on broader projects (perhaps leading the analytics component but with exposure to other workstreams)

Thanks everyone. While I have you all, wanted to ask another question: does your group allow specializing in a specific industry? Or are you able to just focus on an industry but get aligned to whatever project that needs to be staffed when you hit the bench?

In gamma I don’t think there’s a definitive yes or no to any such thing. I mean, if they sold a case and need people, you do it. But if you want to specialize and you have good arguments that align with the firm’s priorities, why not? We operate very much like a “global” startup within BCG and a lot of things are malleable at this stage .

Currently 25 with 2 kids. The 1st one is 4yr old and the 2nd one is 8month old. Currently making a combined income of 285k with my wife. We have about 344k net worth. 401k & Megaback door Roth is max out. Not a fan of 529, because college can be free if you put in the work. Our only debt is our mortgage $1400monthly. We also have a brokerage account where we invest about 10k monthly in stocks. Looking to buy rentals, but we feel like stocks is the way to go for now.

I work with several people with kids and I have noticed quite often that they completely disregard any issues of people with no kids and try to one up work life imbalance conversations with stories of them being parents. It must be hard being a parent but I don’t think people at work should be treated differently or given any additional consideration just because they have a kid. You already get parental leave so If I’m expected to work 12hr I ask the same to be expected from my peers with kids.

My dad passed away 10 years ago.He was a “good”dad while alive (not the best husband). I spent lot of my youth/adult life fixing his mistakes after he died, which weren’t mine to fix. While I have tried to forgive him for myself, the relationship with his memory is complicated. Our family friends (husband and wife) who really were there for us in every sense after his death came to visit. That “uncle” is the closest thing to a father that I have. Today, I really wished he had been my father.
