Do people often greatly exaggerate the truth on their LinkedIns? A few colleagues of mine have pretty embellished profiles. Not sure if this is common...

I heard one guy said he was the assistant regional manager instead of assistant to the regional manager.

Classic typo

So there’s no LinkedIn Police force monitoring exaggerations?

Clippy would use leading edge MSFT AI tech to review your profile against all public documents. Any discrepancy would be logged on your permanent record, like a middle school detention.

One girl I know literally made up her graduation year and probably have a few fake experiences listed 🤡

funny

Haha one guy I know removed his grad year and changed his internship title to “product marketing manager.” Guess he’s trying to sell himself as more experienced than he is 😂

like

Yeah, I have seen people saying they managed full blown projects where they only were the assistant of someone, or that they’re regional marketing manager where they distributed leaflets in Ibiza...

like

It’s because the rampant over-reliance on key word screening and algorithms(plus a general “check the box” mentality of HR people who tend to take everything at face value) heavily incentives people to lie.

like

Everything depends on how you sell yourself. Their LinkedIn might look great but if they prove to be retards during interviews... Bye bye bye

like

Fair enough

I mean one person we hired has basically no experience in most of the tech skills they listed on their resume. Definitely see this.

like

😱 and they still have a job?

like

Oh yeah, very common, you’d be surprised

Yep. Heard about someone who left Accenture and pretty much took claim too things I had done. So exaggerated

Mine is shockingly accurate.

For background, my company hired me and 6 other sales people back in August 2021, I’ve had 3 different VP of Sales since then, have literally 2 customers on our product in my vertical. Marketing and product are horrible, the CMO is the CEO’s daughter and she’s only ever worked for my company.

I hate when you ask senior associates a question regarding an assignment they’ve assigned and you receive attitude-reply to the email vaguely without even addressing the email (example: “just complete the assigned, don’t worry about that”). Especially when the question/issue being ask is an important part of the assignment. It almost feels like I’m a bother for asking even though the associate(when assigning) said “feel free to ask any questions you may have while working on the assigned tasks”

When he got to the front desk I asked “is everything alright? Are you okay?” (Assuming he may be senile),He wasn’t senile, he went swimming & wanted to make me uncomfortable and started to flirt while in his sopping wet see through tidy whiteys- and of course I had to clean up the water he tracked through the lobby.

Got the following offers on the table:

1. Big 4 - Manager, $180k + $20k sign on, told a good expectation is 12-15% bonus next year. 1.5% 401k match and 3% pension contribution. First year cash would be around $225k
2. New, well funded advisory arm of an established business - Engagement manager, $210k, 20-25% bonus. 2.5% 401k match. First year cash closer to $250k

Big 4 is a defined path with history, reputation, and exits. Other place is largely unknown but a lot of comp.
