It’s a percentage of the base salary of the hire, so in a sense yes.

Also, a big chunk of that amount goes to the recruiting firm. Recruiter only keeps a percentage. Still a lot, but not quite as dramatic

How long would you recommend staying in PI defense before jumping to Plaintiff work? I’m a first year and always wanted to do Plaintiff work, but currently at a defense firm right now. I enjoy it a lot and have been getting good experience, but 2k billables for 70k-ish, makes me feel like my work ethic would be far more compensated on the plaintiff side. Had a judge set an expedited trial yesterday; and in so doing, left me with less than a week to propound discovery and serve subpoenas. Fine. Game on. In less than one business day after the hearing, we just served 25 subpoenas, plus Interrogatories, Request for Docs, Request for Admissions, and notices of Deposition. And, just to add the cherry on top, OP is self represented. He isn’t going to know what hit him.

Looking for advice on the following situation: My office is defending a personal injury matter in state court. At the last court conference, Plaintiff admitted to using his attorney’s email address to send ex parte emails to the court clerk (but signed them as from the attorney), outlining all of the ways he feels our firm is mishandling the case. He’s also made accusations of fraud and dishonesty against the other defense attorney on the case. What, if anything, would you do to address this?
