Do strategist have online portfolios? I’m working on mine but never have any to reference...

I’m not sure a portfolio is a great format... people want the story of how you got the team to the work, not just the work itself. Plus there is no much else that goes into any campaign... personally, I want to learn how you think. So, articles, opinion pieces, commentary become critical.

Are there any recent article pieces from a strategist that you’ve found interesting and could share? Or on a particular topic? Curious to know what you’d read as a Head of Strategy.

I have one (full disclosure I went to portfolio school). It’s helpful for recruiters to have a case study to look at / ask questions about as well as a place to always have my most updated resume

likehelpful

I have one. It’s mostly just summaries of what was the ask, what was my approach, and what was the outcome for different projects I’ve done. Then there’s usually a screenshot from the work produced or study we might have done. It’s pretty dull to look at but it’s out there

Teehan + Lax wrote the best case studies back before facebook bought them. Their site is still up i understand. They had a story structure and talked about what they learned and how their view of the project changed as it evolved. Miss them. Here’s an example; https://www.teehanlax.com/story/medium/

My pleasure! This is an analysis of the tesla product reveal deck structure I found well done also, https://medium.com/firm-narrative/want-a-better-pitch-watch-this-328b95c2fd0b it’s by Andy Raskin who works on brand strategy with tech founders in the Valley a lot.

Thanks for the tips! I do a lot of digital work so am trying to showcase my range of skills and experience in leading campaigns, but will definitely take a look at what Julian Cole is working on (am a fan!)! Will also get started on some articles and opinion pieces, thank you!

find it more useful working on my portfolio of stocks and bonds

Anyone else required to put together completely unrealistic timelines?

Upper management's direction is to put together the most aggressive deadlines we can. If we think a project will take 16 months, make the plan for 10 months then there's a chance we may launch in 13 months.

I understand that time to market is important in consumer product goods, but being constantly behind schedule and rushing everything is terrible for the team's morale.

I keep getting rejected branding agencies for roles despite having freelanced at some amazing places and done positioning work there or at ad agencies. Should I even be chasing these agencies? I feel like it’s a constant uphill battle and I’m losing the strength to keep going.
