Do the support staff (speech, OT, PT, social work, etc.) give you a schedule or email ahead about visiting your classroom. Sometimes they all show up at once and it's really disruptive.

Our Speech, counseling, etc all touch base to create schedules for students, usually via email. They never just stop by unannounced.

like

The support staff should construct a schedule to do just that... avoid being disruptive in the class. It’s a lot of services flying around now, so the schedule is an essential part.

like

I have a schedule. At least one service provider is in my room every day though.

that would give me a panic attack. it would be so easy to do with a shared calendar. Geez!

Hello! I am in need of a job that makes at least $70k and is virtual in the DC area. I am adaptable, organized and a leader. I would love to connect and see what possibilities are out there for me.

It’s snowing in NYC and we’re still open for in-person instruction. Regardless of whether you think school’s should be open, moved to virtual learning, or just closed entirely, when students are asked to engage from home, do you feel like there’s anything that can be done to continue their learning even though they’re not in the classroom / lab?

There is a lot of discrimination in my school in regards to LGBTQ and gender representation. I feel like in our school they are asking more and more of aides and other staff with no certification (beyond HS diploma). Don't get me wrong I don't mind helping out but we are the lowest paid position in the district, why are we asked to fill in for everyone else with no compensation? Ive subbed in classroom and special areas... um even uncertified subs make more than me... admin insists this is happening everywhere and we need to be flexible... but is it really?!?!

Thoughts on teaching “vosotros” in the class? My Spanish is from South America and I do not use it. I do not teach it in the classroom but I explain what it is so if they see it they understand

Does anyone share a classroom with someone who totally disrespects all of your stuff and space? (AND allows their students to do the same when you aren't in the room?!) I am trying my best but we are only a few weeks in and I don't know how I'm going to handle the rest of the year like this. I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has also gone through this.

Organization is critical for classroom management. Try assembling units into Google Slides with links to ppts, activities, etc. Color code them according to the rainbow: Unit 1 red, Unit 2 orange etc. It takes a minute at first but the payoff is a one click upload for next year! PS I use the same color code system with felt tip pens to grade my classes: 1st hr red, 2nd hr orange etc.

Welcome to our pre-k inclusive classroom. Even with 8 students, and only face to face for 4 hours, we struggle. We struggle being heard through our masks. We struggle with social distancing. We struggle as we find ourselves constantly reminding students to keep their masks on. We struggle to keep them engaged and to teach. One thing we do not struggle with- building connections and showing out love for each child.

I work at an elementary school where the new principal set up two art classes attending art together. I am the art teacher and I have a para professional. We start with the 2 classes, grade 1-4 in one room, one class sits on the floor, so I can teach and give instructions. Then my para takes one class to the stage where they have tables set up to do their art. What do you think about the legality of this? Can a para run a class alone?

Does anyone else get really upset when they see the kids at their school being yelled at by adults for such tiny things? Kids make mistakes. It hurts my heart when these little mistakes get blown into embarrassing and scary moments for them - I swear I can still remember that feeling in the pit of my stomach from when I was little. I know it can be frustrating but let's normalize giving kiddos a little grace to mess up sometimes without shaming them or screaming at them.
