Rising Star
My kids have been in school (ages 8 and 5), my husband works in the office (he has since start of pandemic), and we are out and about a decent amount (though we are wearing masks, avoiding crowds, etc). We haven’t gotten COVID yet (as far as we know!). I’m still working remote and will be for as long as possible - it’s risk/reward to me - it’s worth it to me to have kids in school; it’s not worth it to me to go hang out with my coworkers (for now). I wouldn’t want to go in to work if I had a baby. But, if I truly had no choice (is that your case?), I’d just mask and distance.
Yes- no choice. New-ish to my job and everyone is going in. I asked for them to give me another few days/week for cases to go down in the area..I got till Friday. I’ll be wearing a KN-95 at least.
Hmm... I'd be curious how much liability a company would be subject to if said child caught covid and had to be hospitalized. While it is rare, that would be the question I'd want to know the answer to. Now, if your child was older than 5, you had an opportunity to vaccinate - that would be on you. But with a child under 5, it would be interesting to understand this from a liability / exposure perspective. I mean... it isn't *likely*, but I'd be more interested in what the actuaries rank as the financial risk. As a last heads up, that downward trend is still over last year.
No liability since there is no way to prove where anyone catches COVID.

We will be 50% lower by end of week. Covid is over

I heard "Covid is over" a few times these past two years. Hasnt happened yet
You’re going to get covid. So is your baby. There’s a good chance you’ve both already had it, even if you weren’t aware of it. Just go to work and move on. No one here has a crystal ball.
We did. In March 2021. That was Delta. We can get omicron now and chances have been higher in the last month. I’m thinking you don’t have a baby or small child that is unvaccinated and are completely insensitive to the major disruption that is an unvaccinated person’s quarantine/daycare closures, etc. Thanks for your kindness.

It was never a 100% chance. But in NY/NJ, cases are declining rapidly, which is a good sign. For now, I’d say still wear a mask indoors (ideally N95/KN95/KF94), but in a few weeks we may not need to do that.

It’s never been 100% certain; that’s just what COVID advocates want you to think. I have been indoors with precautions, and I have several kids each in different schools. While I can’t conclusively say I don’t have it right now, none of us have any symptoms and have tested negative in the past few weeks.

I thought I chose a relatively neutral term to describe the people (some in this very thread) who think that more COVID is a good thing and that we should just stop talking about it. Using the more colorful but accurate terms could get me banned.
“100% chance” lol

Who was saying that it’s a 100% chance? That’s just as unreasonable as people who think we should just completely ignore COVID and let it run ravage.
I think you get where I was going with that. If you’re in NY or NJ specifically, literally everyone has had omicron in the last month. Curious if we’ve turned a corner. It was not like this the last two years with everyone you know getting it all at once.
I would wait until cases are low (~1% of what they are now) to go unmasked indoors in public if you don't want to catch it. I'm skeptical that these huge declines of 50% weekly are going to stay that strong tho. DC for instance has seen only a 20% decline week over week.

So you live in the street then
Folks- my 100% line was somewhat sarcastic. I know nothing is 100%. The question was more around everyone getting omicron all at once in the NY/NJ area in the last month, vaccinated or not. My question was around whether you think we’ve turned a corner. It will be disruptive and uncomfortable to wear an n-95 at work all day, especially in video meetings with clients, but I’m going to do this for the time being to avoid infecting my unvaccinated child and losing childcare for 2 weeks. I’m neither a psychotic hide in my basement person nor an antivaxxer. There are plenty of us that are in between and worried more about constant unvaxxed (my baby) quarantines, daycare closures, etc. Parents of small children get it. If I can avoid the above, life will be much less stressful.
Thanks for getting it! Hoping I can skip the mask wearing at work soon in the next few weeks. We are going back hybrid and a booster requirement was implemented 12/27. We were also testing once a week prior to shutting down before Christmas. Safe space!
Are there any parents out there that simply just dont gas about covid anymore because they realize it's now a cold and the chances of severe illness in their kid is slim to none. Like maybe it's cause I have immigrant parents who don't have the luxury of fear but they seriously would not GAS
Gas? See above- fear is around work disruption with daycare closures and quarantine time for the unvaccinated (aka, my baby).
