No. So as long as it’s healthy and kept brushed
Absolutely not? If the bias is there that’s their problem. Let your work speak for itself and be part of the movement of women who help break the connection between feminine = lesser than. I got promoted early and have always spiked on client, and I present extremely feminine. Be true to yourself
Is this a serious question? My hair is mid-back length and I never thought anybody would judge me because of that as long as it’s clean and styled
I didn’t realize that this could be an actual unconscious bias
I’m a guy with long hair I always wear down. it’s never been a problem
Several women on my project do this. I didn’t realize people felt some type of way about it.
I had to cut mine a few inches because I was worried of this too, since I felt that a ponytail made me look too young and unprofessional.
I’ve been using a clip to make a ponytail instead of a tie and hoping it’s a little more “mature.” Sure hope it’s working 🤷🏻♀️
No, consulting is already uptight enough....let your hair down (Male fwiw)
Unfortunately, yes these women are judged even when the hair is very neat. It’s a very feminine hairstyle, and very feminine women are judged as weaker. There’s a reason female CEOs rarely have hair beyond their shoulders. I’m not saying I agree with this bias, but it does exist.
you can, but be warned - she does have short hair
So i think in theory its not the length, but brushing hair, pushing back hair , fiddling with strands of hair and hair falling over your clothes can seem distracting, woman here and this is just my observation.
Wtf
Yes, only because it looks uncomfortable
Really? How so?
Depends...hair that long gets harder to keep healthy / neat / styled. If you can do that, then you’re fine...if not, you should keep it a bit shorter.
M, nope as long is as it's well taken care of. Same as if a guy has long hair. As long as it's styled and well groomed who cares
I have the same length hair. A communication and presence coach told me if I’m wearing it down to push it behind my shoulders before meetings to look the most professional. The main thing being it can make you look really young so pushing it back gives the most executive presence if it’s down.
This is such a good tip. Thank you!
As long as your hair is healthy, well-kept and not distracting, it can be any length you want. That means regular trims, use of a brush or comb, not showing up at work with wet hair hanging down your back, and limited use of “fun” colors/accents (these immediately label you as too young to take seriously). Anyone who says other peoples’ bias is not your problem is being unrealistic. Others’ bias is indeed your problem if that bias holds you back.
No.
M here, definitely not
M here, never thought about this being an issue so guess that’s a no from me.
Not unprofessional at all
