Hello, everyone! I am new to fishbowl, the Healthcare field, and fairly new to my company. One of my primary goals, besides finding the highest quality talent to join our team, is to expand my network. If anyone here is willing to send me a LinkedIn connect request I would be very appreciative! It will be a mutual benefit, I assure you. (I am at my weekly limit for sending connect requests)

You’ll get old. You will need money. Compound interest can change your retirement. The earlier you’ll start, the more you’ll have. You will need those dollars no matter where you’ll end up staying. Started saving 4 years ago. Now have around $100k in my 401k. It’s not much (especially for us), but it is better than 0 if I were to be afraid of all uncertainties. If I ever go back to my home country and end up staying there, I’ll end up with a ton more than most of my peers. I’d I’ll die earlier, well.. my wife can spend it. Or my kids. I honestly don’t care. It’s not like I really need those extra funds to feel much better than today

I personally don’t. It’s a personal choice because I like to experiment with post tax dollars using a brokerage account. I can easily convert that to cash and get out. Also burned my hands with EPFs and PPFs in India which are a nightmare to keep track of. Not doing retirement accounts till I’m sure of settling here.
Totally agree with pwc1 invest in retirement and start early. I started 6 years ago and now my portfolio is worth 300k wish I had started may years ago. Don’t make the mistake of not doing it. Just don’t. Interest and compound growth is a powerful thing.
My 401k only is 220k

OP keep contributing to 401k and in case plan to leave the US, move it to a Roth IRA account in smaller installments after you move outside the US. You would probably be below tax limit while you transfer after moving out of the US. Then after five years in Roth, you can withdraw principal amount tax and penalty free. If you also withdraw earnings, it would be subject to tax and penalty if withdrawn before retirement age.
