I have wondered this too. But then after learning about ATS, the automated resume review system, reviewing qualifications I have been putting it in there no matter what
I keep it in there because I’ve noticed people list it in requirements etc. in job listings.
You’re right - it’s a given that you should be proficient in it for any sort of role, but unfortunately - there are the people who would make the assumption you don’t have it purely because it’s not there.
I list it in my resume too especially if it’s a qualification that they’re looking for. Some companies are all Google everything so I put both G Suite and Microsoft 365.
I would add it for sure but also list any specific apps you usually use like power automate or power bi!

You definitely need to add it! Most companies use ATS for initial applicant screening which only scans for key words and since MS office is a required skill in almost all our job descriptions leaving it off is likely allowing ATS to screen you out for many opportunities.
