Do you all think it’s best to wait until next year for new construction? Prices seem super inflated due to materials costs and/or supply shortages

There is no evidence of a housing bubble right now. Loans are stricter than ever so unless the COVID apocalypse of people defaulting on their loan happens (it won’t) then it’s more of the same. The inflation in housing prices might settle down but you’re not going to say a 20% drop like in 2008-9.

like

That’s ok. You’re a consultant. You’re either right or not wrong.

There’s a huge housing shortage that has been many years in the making. There might be some slight inflation from the lumber cost increases that we had a few months ago, but I don’t see prices adjusting much in the next several months unless a specific builder has overpriced a specific development and seeing low to no sell through.

🙃

Nah

Honestly rates are so low right now that the buying power is much better now than it was in 2019 before Covid. I don’t really foresee any market crash or houses getting any cheaper just make the right decision. Buy a duplex and rent one side out while you’re living there

Hi everyone,
So I have been maxing 401k and Roth for a few years now. I setup the Roth on an auto deposit spread across the year. Well, it just dawned on me that with my wife and I recent (December last year) raises. We are now over the limit that's allowed to contribute to them. I have already invested a good chunk for the 2020 year.
So my questions are, do I just pull the money out of it or leave it?
What sort of penalties can I expect for next year's taxes?
Thank you!

First timer here and since I love it, and it’s way under miles seems like a win, win. Just curious if you reached out to the leasing company first, or if you brought your own financing to the table, and what rates I might be looking at.

Latest buyout quote is for $28k, and I have exceptional credit.

I previously maxed out my traditional 401k
I have about 40k

Once I learned more about retirement, I then stopped contributing to traditional 401k and started maxing out my Roth 401k
I have about 60k

I have about 25k of matched contributions

This is where I get fuzzy
-Should I/can I call the broker to roll over my traditional 401k to my Roth 401k (or do I need to open a separate Roth IRA and have them roll it into this?)

-Should I/Can I move my matched contributions to my Roth 401K...cont

SO and I are debating contributing to 401k this year since the rate of return is around -11% on our portfolios this year. I believe it would be better off saving the cash in my account.

I'm thinking of contributing again when/if the market picks up next year. Thoughts?

How much rent should I spend in NYC?

I try to save so I can FIRE but I'm tempted to splurge a bit on luxury housing in NYC. I have 2 options:

Option 1:
2 bed flex: 1650$ includes all amenities like gym pool etc and I get the main room
But I have to share the common area, bath, kitchen, no Washer dryer in unit

Option 2:
Studio: 450 sq feet, $1995 includes Washer/dryer, gym and amenities $75 extra
Get to live by myself, more modern building built in 2000s

Is it worth the extra 350? TC:160k
