No, and regret it every day. Do it

Chief
I've had 8 jobs over my career and I negotiated 7 of them. For the one I didn't negotiate, I only didn't do so because the offer they gave me came in at ~20% higher than the high end of my comp target range and I was blown away by it. Might have been able to get more out of it, but I was very happy with what they offered.
Yes
No. Sometimes you get an offer that's well above market. It's rare, but when it happens, you run with it

Thanks this role has been written for me By a former boss that I worked with in my current job. She knows what I am currently making so a lil scared that since I am grossly underpaid here and I’m worried I might get undercut and won’t have a lot of negotiating room.
it’s a newLy created role in industry and not a lot of information of what the market value is. So I’m finding that I will be in a lot of murky water here.
I undercut myself for my first job. Gave a number right off the bat with I thought was a good range based on research and they accepted, and turns out it was on the lower end of the band. Learned my lesson.
Now the line I use with the recruiter is something like “I’m certainly open to the market rate, would you know the usual comp for someone of my similar experience?” When they give you the number you say “Oh that’s actually a bit lower range than I expected but still open to furthering the discussion”. Then you ask for more once the offer is made. Ideally you have another offer(s) to leverage, although I’ve bluffed before and it worked out...
Absolutely. I renegotiated my expectations before I was even given an offer. And the company increased the salary by another $10k to ensure my happiness.
Can anyone give an example on what you would say to negotiate?
Nahhh bruh, try again.
In seriousness, I haven't really had to broach the subject. HR or recruiters have asked me for my expectations and generally try to meet them. If they can't, they'll start a discussion on what it would take and how they can meet in the middle.
If you already say "I'm looking for between X and Y," and they give you an offer in that range, would you still try to negotiate that up? I feel like they've met your expectation and you don't have leverage to bring that even higher.
Yeahhhhh, that's some advice I'll have to take for next time. Whoever shows their hand first loses power. The moment I gave a number I regretted it.
Yes, sometimes it leads to an increase sometimes it doesn’t. But always negotiate
Look here - always negotiate even if you don’t think you should. I graduated college a year ago and got my full time offer at 68k no experience whatsoever, completely green. I negotiated up to 74k and definitely glad I did even though I probably shouldn’t of even got 68k at first.
At the beginning of the interview process , the HR usually asks for a range....should we still negotiate if the final salary offered is a the top end of this range ?
No. I tell them what I want upfront. I’m not one to haggle back in forth in anything but that is just me. I am clear on where I need to be and u meet it or you don’t.
