Absolutely, if I am unable to do other work because I'm waiting for the meeting to start, I bill for that time.

Sure

I do, but I’m generally reviewing notes and documents as I wait.

Yes. Opportunity cost

If it keeps me from other work, yes, but I also generally continue prepping for the meeting while waiting. If most people are assembled and some straggler is running late such that the client asks to delay the start, I feel fine running the timer even if I’m just staring at their heads on zoom.

FWIW, if it’s phone or zoom and they’re a total no show, I won’t wait more than about 10 minutes before I email to say sorry we missed each other and suggest scheduling a new time if needed.

Yes, unless you can bill someone else for that time. This time has been especially reserved you, Client. They bought your time when they agreed to the call.

It's a meeting even if they don't show up.

like

What if it’s an internal meeting about a client matter?

like

Unless you are the billing partner, you bill for your time, and let the billing partner worry about it.

Sure. You’re like a taxi.

Doing my GMAT tomorrow. Was practicing doing quant first followed by verbal because my quant is weaker. However been reading that verbal can impact your score more than quant can, especially in the 700+range (each correct question has a larger score impact). Thinking of doing verbal first now, but not sure if its a good idea since quant first is how I practiced. Any thoughts / experiences?

Ever been let go before your billable time entries were in? Was let go today and not all of my time made it in as it was due next week. I’m expecting a heavy payout but I’m wondering if they can withhold since my billables are not in? Seems like their loss at this point.

I clerked for a federal district court judge and am now doing a federal court of appeals clerkship. I have an informal understanding with my old firm that I will return. It’s a small market with only 3-4 other 100+ attorney firms. I liked my old firm and have good relationships with firm leadership. Should I still apply to other firms, to make sure I’m getting fair compensation terms? I’m not particularly interested in working elsewhere but want to make sure I don’t get shortchanged.
