I send home letters and have them to get their parents to sign. I offer them extra credit if they return it (100 CW or HW grade). Then I only call the parents of the kids who didn't bring back the sheet. It narrows the number of parents I have to call by quite a lot. Also by that time, I have the parents on my side when I call and I state that, I offered your child Extra Credit if they brought back the sheet signed and that could have brought their grade up a lot. It's not that I don't want to talk to the parents, I don't have the time to call. But most of the times the letter home reduce, or even eliminate, the number of call I have to make.
Great idea!
Yes, I call/email/text them every week. Sometimes I get a response.😊 I grow weary of saying the same thing every week, but at least I have tried. I always start out by saying I really need your help in this matter. It seems to help build a relationship with the parent!😊
Great idea!
