Definitely I felt this. I often think I need to overcompensate and control more of my projects so I get the credit. Then I realized I was working way too much and way too hard and I didn’t need to burn myself out. Don’t get me wrong - I have to toot my own horn at times (and I really don’t like doing it) but then I started getting credit on projects with having great teamwork skills. Maybe your boss is testing out the newbie for their knowledge. Stay confident in what you do and what you know!
I feel the exact way!! What are the things I can do to show my leadership team skills as someone who is a level above the newcomer?
Why do you feel threatened? Is the new person the same level as you?
a level lower. Just think he is really good at what he does and afraid my boss would compare him to me.
Do you have weekly, quarterly or 6 month reviews? In those reviews do you understand where you stand on performance? When new people come on, it does take time for us as "bosses" to make sure new folks are acclimating, getting the support they need. I am a very hands off manager, so I trust my folks know their job, a new person needs a bit more hand holding sometimes until they are completely melded into the organization. Everyone manages differently, but it may be depending on much you and your boss discuss how you are doing...you are probably doing great.
