Do you disclose your depression/anxiety as disability in job apps?

Heck no, seems too risky to me. I’d be worried employees would see it as a barrier to work (which it can be for me but they don’t need to know that)

Hell no. HR peeps r gonna treat u as high risk. No matter how much they paint themselves to care about employees' mental health, they r looking out for their #1--the company. Sad truth.

nope. i actually filed a claim with the EEOC recently and they even recommended to never list it. if it does start to affect you in your role, then you have a choice to ask for an accommodation but only after you get the job. i was fired after asking for an accommodation but protected by the EEOC in that regard. it’s a messy process and SOME companies still see mental health as a weakness. you are not required to tell them on your app; they are not supposed to discriminate but i don’t trust the system.

Nope but I disclose it as a disability on dates

I apply with a “disability.” I think it’s time to change our perception on the issue. Life is hard. If disclosing things like that softens up a ball buster or authoritarian, seems to me it’s a good thing 🤷‍♂️

Follow up here based on AD1’s comment - my anxiety/depression has started to affect my work performance lately (I stopped taking medication and started therapy, but taking a while to adjust). Having a hard time getting the littlest things done correctly. Should I tell my boss or HR? It’s hard to tell if that would help me or hurt me.

I agree here. While I pulled HR in, they actually tried to build a case against me behind my back after i was approved for accommodation. While I’m protected by the EEOC, it’s a long process and i had to pay 2k for a lawyer. with the government shut down, this is pushing the timeline even further. it could take over 2 years! we are in the process of trying to mediate but they’re claiming i was “about” to get a coaching but I went to them about my mental health. No evidence of that ever happened as I was unaware of the mistakes I made (honestly the mistakes they presented was a team thing, as my boss approved my work??) and there was no documentation on their end. HR was the one who told me to get on antidepressants lol. it’s very rare you’ll come across a good team of HR folks. at my last agency, however, they were VERY understanding of people’s health. a rarity! side note: i no longer work at the agency i’m talking about in my early posts due to them firing me after i told them about my mental health. i was in the process of new medications and was receiving little to no feedback on my work but was deemed that i was “underperforming” two weeks after approval for accommodation. with that said, keep documents, take notes, write down dates, take screenshots on a separate device in case they unexpectedly retaliate like this agency did.

No.

Interested in your opinions. Last year I took a government job. Before I was working as an independent consultant and netting more - obviously without pension and benefits though. (Lost work due to pandemic.) With extra medical expenses this year (outside of government insurance) I realize I’m simply not making enough money to do what I want and need to to (medical + travel + investing). Everyone tells me to stay for security and WLB.

Just venting. I feel like a horrible mom. My daughter is 20 months old and she has been on and off low key sick (runny nose, no fever) for the past three months since daycare. She has been waking up screaming all hours of the night and I’m so tired I can’t handle it anymore. My husband has been so great with her and holding her all night as needed. Whenever I see him handling her crying so well, I feel like I’m the worst as I just want her to stop. Loud noise is too much. Always feel like

Hi all, I realize this isn’t a medical community but would still appreciate insights. I started Trintillix for anxiety / depression but ultimately insurance wouldn’t cover it. I switched to Wellbutrin and didn’t feel anything. I also now need to get off Wellbutrin because of some other medical things. What successes have people had for anxiety / depression? I have a history of eating disorders so really won’t take anything that might make you gain weight. Realize this is a tall order, but TIA.

MBB associate with undergrad degree in economics. Loved the degree, though didn’t do much with it outside of class (spent summers on internships, didn’t write a thesis). If I want to do something related to economics, how can I best leverage my current background to do so? Would MS in Econ make more sense than an mba? Maybe MS in stats or data science? Does the MBB background help in any way?
