Is it important to offer support staff that speak a foreign language or is it sufficient if the attorney can communicate with the client? We had one bilingual paralegal and another who is not. The bilingual one left us some time ago.

Looking for advice please! I’ve been working on a project that was supposed to end in Dec. In Nov, they offered me a different project that was supposed to start in Feb. Then, the current project was extended - I agreed to stay on that and they presented it like I would be on both projects. In Feb, I asked about the new project, and silence. The current project is due to end soon, so I asked about the Feb and future work and silence. Am I being ghosted even though I’m still working there?

Staffing a part time side project that counts towards utilization at my firm. Unfortunately due to small budget cuts had to tell some of the part time staff who were contributing a few hours a week to the project that we would need them to step back from the project. I have this partner who doesn’t enjoy working with me because I do below avg work for her but she has little choice of foot soldiers. My firm’s IT (especially system saving and file locating function) is so bad 😐😞 and they keep doing updates no one asked them for just to mess with the stuff we already got a hang of without doing anything about the issues we actually need fixed. Anyone else in a similar boat? Do you bill the client for the time it takes to fix the IT issue (or IT inefficiency generally, like time taken to find a file in a convoluted system)? Or is that supposed to be our non-billable time?

How do you define big law vs mid size?

Does anyone feel like you begin to cruise or coast at some point? I sometimes feel like I do. I don’t know what it is - maybe tired, or burnt out. Only after making or almost making a mistake do I realize the importance of being alert always. This is just so difficult because many times there just isn’t enough time to pay 100%attention to everything. I’m not married yet and once I am, I’m a bit afraid that the available time I have for work will decrease significantly. /end rant/concern.
