Happy Gudhi Padwa Marathi folks!!
If you wanna spend your life choose the west but if you wanna really live it you choose home!
Personally I don’t feel bad to live in the US for better opportunities and quality of life. Most of our parents vacated their home towns too and settled in cities in India when they were young and needed better opportunities. We are no different, life is a cycle. Our kids will definitely go to the moon and the mars and we will be left behind on the earth lol.
Do you make time to talk to them? Like really talk to them regularly?
Make them understand the reality life’s not easy abroad but even life’s tougher in India. It’s good for growth of self & family & coming generations, that’s something more than money.
India is good even I miss it, but you spend more time in running behind administration, bank, electricity, licenses etc...
I get my parents here every alternate year and they with me for a couple of months. In addition to that I visit home once every year for couple of weeks. It’s worked great so far. My parents are happy and I feel great too. You should plan and make something similar work for you and your family.
I went through these conversations and ultimately gave asked them a question which resonated with them: Did you move from a village to city for better employment and good education for your kids leaving your parents behind? The answer was yes and after frequency of these conversations reduced
D1 well said... exactly how I fill the void of their absence..
Yes, 3-4 days video call. They have a good life (financially good) and on top of it I send money monthly to them because I want to show I care but they constantly talk about why India is best. They are 59. I love them but I am doing really well here, can’t go back to earning pennies again(comparatively).
Have you asked them what they want? Do they want you to move back? Or would they rather have you visit more often?
Well, in some cases, India is best. Moreover, these days people make a ton of money even in India. Not asking you to move back, just saying.
^may be my perspective will change with time...
