Very few people over 50. That appears to be check out time.
Maybe my experience is a fluke, but I've worked with a number of senior female creatives (ECD level or higher) who are around or over 50, but very few men at that age. Regardless of gender, most were relegated to running the crap accounts in the agency.

Same CD/AD1. I had a due ECD team that lasted til about 55, and it was 5 years over their expiration date. But they were friends with the prez and so they stayed on but had no real purpose.
