Chronic Care Management as a side hustle
Yes, California. Why? It is the only state in the US with safe staffing limits as the law. I used to work PCU in Florida. We were 5:1 almost daily. In California the law limits a PCU assignment to 3:1. Telemetry? The law limits you to 4:1. Med surg? 5:1. No other state has this. The NNU (national nurses united) is trying to get a federal level safe staffing bill through Congress, but good luck defeating the hospital lobby. And think about California for a second. Everything you want is here: Beaches, mountains, forests, concerts (with every artist playing here at some point), so much good food, etc. It costs a lot to live here (in the major cities at least) but it’s worth it. You just need to find a good paying nurse job, and they are always hiring because of that staffing law.
There is none or else every single nurse would be there
CALIFORNIA, there is no doubt!
I left Stony Brook for California, I feel you 😁
CT - Really good patient ratios, good patient acuity in affluent areas and the easiest license u can apply for.
Meh, I would say MA over CT. I was an LPN for 12 years before getting my RN this year and I was making $37/hr as an LPN. Started at a hospital as a “new grad” RN and my pay is $34/hr, like all the other new grads. My pay went up to $45/hr in MA. Hospital ratios in MA aren’t great, but if you are looking for psych or behavioral health jobs, those are plentiful and the pay is very good. My per diem rate at a psych hospital where I no longer work went up to $47/hr per diem as an RN.

But what's the cost of living like in California?
This has to be California! Not just because of the salary but also because it really encourages diversity in the workplace. California has the most diverse worforces in America.
Interesting. Seeing the comments makes me want to move to Cali as well. I'm not quite sure about the COL there though.
Any tips for a new grad nurse trying to move to California?
Thank you so much! I’ll look into their program.
