New here. Worked with one Black leader so far. She was great.
Truthfully most may not have the social capital to support. Find a white guy or two :)
Following. OP - what would support look like to you? How do non-Black leaders treat you better?
It’s not that they treat me better. It’s that they have the social capital to sponsor and pound the table.
Support means getting me opportunities, giving me candid feedback, being available to me and accessible to me, and giving me the benefit of the doubt - at a high-level
I’ve worked with a black leader - it’s been one of my best studies at the firm. Agree that many don’t have sufficient capital to provide opportunities but the person I worked with tried his best while I worked with him and always gave me rave reviews for study DD
I’ve talked to other MBN ppl about this over the course of our tenure. I’ve only had one treat me super poorly and another friend has had the same experience with another black AP. But going back to support, no, I don’t feel supported how I thought I would be. In bschool, we put in SO MUCH WORK to create a sense of community and lift each other up. Prepping the applying black students like crazy through essays and interviews. That is just an example of us supporting and isn’t referencing mck recruiting practices.
Synopsis: no, I don’t feel supported. A lot of the black ppl who make it to AP+ really don’t make an effort to pull us up in my…very large…office. I’ve talked to friends in other large offices who feel the same way
