do you find that you take your female colleagues less seriously if they don't wear makeup or dress in pretty clothes/heels? Does it apply differently if they are higher/lower rank than you?

If anything we will take you less seriously as a Barbie doll

If someone is a complete slob (male or female), I would probably take them less seriously (whatever that means)

No

Nope

Why should women be treated differently according to what they are wearing or how good looking they are, what kind of bullshit questions do you guys ask? Would you disregard a male colleague's professional opinion just because he is ugly as hell or dress badly? So why would you do it with female colleagues? Am I in a chat for horny teenagers or for professional grown-up adults?

like

I find when I wear a full power suit instead of floral dresses, I'm generally taken more seriously. However if I'm on a meeting with all men who need some convincing to see my point, high heels and sheath dresses all the way

Being blonde and tall it doesn't take much to be treated less seriously.

What if they are just not pretty regardless whether they wear makeups and dress pretty or not

Well maybe Barc is the one place on the face of the earth where "professional grown-up adults" are rational, mature, and pleasant...but out here in the real world, they will absolutely take any excuse to judge the shit out of you and generally behave like animals

like

@Barc1 they shouldn't be- I asked because I wanted to know if they *were* - because a female colleague told me she'd once been offered a job but told "you will have to wear makeup and heels if you want to be taken seriously" which I thought was awful.

Thanks for clarifying Barc OP, I upvoted your last comment because I agree with you.

You are misled my friend, I work in a place where people do judge "the shit out of you", but on the basis of your brain and performance, not physical appearance.

Serious question - is there a reverse FIRE strategy? I like the idea of saving and retiring early, but the one hiccup I see (and sorry if this is grim) is if you die earlier than expected. I’d be worried that I would minimize lifestyle and fun for retirement at 50 but I’d die at 49. How about a way to work 9 months out of the year and retire/travel/relax for 3 months? This way you guaranteed your dreams/etc. are fulfilled

Networking question here. A retired partner at the firm I used to work out reached out to me recently about attending an afternoon during the week (b4 4/30) with one of his long time clients. The partner and I have kept in touch since I joined my new firm and I feel like his invitation is a great networking opportunity since the client (who I have worked with before) is on a number of boards. Torn as how to request off as an S3. Could materialize to nothing but could be good for reconnecting.
