Taking some time off. Need some book recommendations. Some light interesting non-fiction. No self help or management books. Just interesting topics that won’t make me think about work.

I have a vacation planned in about eight days. Instead of being super motivated and get work done ✔️ , I’m starting to slide into it. I’ve tried making to do lists and “eating the frog” . Nothing is working I’m not sure what’s wrong with me

Is it unethical as realtors working in an office to block chunks of time off for personal reasons? Some of my coworkers stay in their desks for up to 10 hours, but I've taken up the habit of blocking at least 1 hour daily for lunch, breaks, and other issues that may arise. Do you do this as well or do you prefer to work straight through your day?

Tell me if this is selfish or not. I adore my family, but since they're doing a very lowkey Christmas situation this year, I really would rather take a weeks vacation on my own. Obviously the holidays are about spending time with those you love, but I'm tired! And I see my entire family at least once a month for a group dinner. Am I a bad daughter/sister if I choose vacation this one time?

Found myself in a conversation with the branch manager (white male pushing thru his late 60's) about holiday decorations. I just told him how I've been directed by corporate to keep the winter holiday decorations as non denominational and he nearly exploded. Starts saying how Christmas is the "American Way" and "nobody is going to take MY Christmas" and "this is MY BRANCH, I will decorate for CHRISTMAS" and so much more. I'm just flabbergasted, frustrated but not surprised.

Normally struggle to get out of bed for work but had no trouble waking up on PTO at 6am to make an early tee time. Why?!?

How does your firm deal with underperforming associates? We are crazy busy but have a couple first-years on vacation, 50-100 hours per month, and thinking we are a "lifestyle" firm. I don't want to just fire them, at least not yet, but I want to see a change. How many second chances do you give? How many months under budget?

Currently at Deloitte in Cyber (100% client facing) and just got an offer for an internal cyber role at McKinsey. Wanted to know if internal employees get the same benefits (PTO, 401k match, Grad school assistance for high performers) and if there were ever opportunities to move into 100% client facing roles for internal employees.

When should I give a new client a heads up that I will take time off for mat leave? I started with this client about a month ago. There’s no SOW, and it’s a few hours a week for random projects. I didn’t tell them I was pregnant at the time we started. My plan is to work until the end of the year, and then take time off. When is the best time to let them know? Asap? A month before? I don’t care about picking things up once I’m back but I’d like to be courteous.

Have seen comp for NACR (restructuring) listed at around 150-200 for analysts, 200-275 for associates, and one mention of senior associates at 375k. Supposedly NACR gets crushed in terms of hours. But i've also read that targets are around 2000 hours per year? Something doesn't add up.....e.g. Associate $550/hr * 25% cap rate * 2000 billable hrs = $275k.......but 2000 hours is slightly over 40 hours a week (including 4 weeks vacay), not the 80 hr/week. So is there a ton of time on vacation?

Should we give a bonus for daycare ladies or housekeepers for the holiday season? If yes how much do you do/have you seen?

How is RSM PTO? Understand it’s unlimited, which limits more than accrued, but any insight on what you like/dislike?

I have a job offer I'm considering and everyone I've spoken to in interviews has been great. But the recruitment process itself was clunky, slow, and not applicant-friendly. Does that indicate my experience working there will be bad? Or is it more important to look at the actual content of the interviews, which was good? For context, the company is owned by an equity firm and it seems like some of the bureaucracy is coming from them.
