Feeling so down right now…I spent months trying to get into a tech company. And when I finally got in, I was then laid off two months into the job. This past month, I applied to 300+ jobs and had 30+ interviews. None of them led to offers due to hiring freezes or internal hires. I just went through 10 interviews with a non-tech company and I don’t know if I will get an offer. I am just so tired of everything. If you have to pay back a sign on bonus do you get back the withholding on it when you file your tax returns? For instance if the sign on bonus is 10k, there si withholding on that. So you actually receive 6k (assumption). But if you leave the company you pay back 10k no? How do you get the 4k back?

I need advice on how to approach a raise request.

I am a software sales representative in the manufacturing space. My starting salary was $85,000 in 2015 I did not receive a raise until I asked for one three years later in 2018. The raise was 5%. The partner I work with wants me to dictate everything for the secretary to type. I feel that I am better at typing and more productive typing my work out. I have never dictated anything in my life and don’t think I would be very efficient or effective at it, I also hate the sound of my own voice. I’m an associate at a regional BigLaw firm in the Midwest. I’m in one of the smaller markets for my firm, and while salary is at the top of the local market, I do work for other higher-rate markets and bill BigLaw hours. My comp is roughly 20% of my annual billables, while comp for associates in larger markets is roughly 30% of annual billables. Am I getting screwed?

I interviewed at a firm a few months ago and afterwards I was in contact with them and basically they never got the hiring approved from higher up and didn’t end up hiring anyone. Now they have an opening again, is it frowned upon to apply again?

Started at a new firm 5 months ago and I still don’t have a full workload and because of that my billing sucks. I’ve reached out to my supervising attorney, 2 partners, and even looped in someone from admin just to see if she knew if anyone needs help. I specifically say things like “can I take some work off your hands? I need more billable work” and I get a few small things but still behind on my total billables. One of the partners talked to me about my billing but I just feel stuck. Cont’d
