Do you guys have a formal or rule you use when giving out a cost estimate for a project? For clarification: this will be a creative project with a former coworker, I have no idea to the budget.

Rule 1 don’t give an estimate if you have no idea how to budget.

It depends on what it is... honestly this post needs to be re-written.

Get a Producer to give you a ballpark range.

is this a freelance project? regardless u should estimate this as any project / task u work on and if its freelance/extra work pad it more or charge more (remember u also have to pay taxes). based on the hour estimate put a price in your time. also consider cost mitigation if its a solo project. i can go on and on but bottomline charge what u will be happy with and for the time u know u will do your client happy with. if its a friend then think twice of giving them a cheap price and then been in this difficult position.

I have 8 yoe as a BA. It's been 2 months since I joined a Big4 as a Scrum master. I was asked to shadow the project manager but the person is just not helpful. I am not looped/forwarded any emails, no client introduction has been done, no tasks, no one contacts me all day long except for the one call in a day where I am the silent spectator. Am I in trouble?

Poll Question: which consultant would you rather staff or hire and why? A. Consultant who has worked with the same client for two straight years, above target utilization. B. Consultant who has worked with 8 different clients over two years, above target utilization.

I work in a 7-attorney firm with a national presence. Partly because I’m only a few months in, I work a roughly 8-6 day. I’m also new to billing and often find myself working all day and billing just 4 hours. Whenever I bring this up to the partner, he says it’s good we’re not over billing our client. We don’t have minimum billable hours so it doesn’t matter much for the firm’s sake but I think I’m missing out on learning the important skill of billing my time. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Tips on how to handle a client who complains to you about your associate? The issue is ultimately a personality clash, rather than a quality issue, but in this case, the associate has very specific expertise and the client complains if an associate without that expertise is involved in the deal. I am also not the type to throw associate under the bus and the preference is to handle it in a way that means the associate can continue to work on the matters rather than restaff it.

I had a weird dream: I was at a conference with a job to do, and different individuals from different companies/governments gave me assignments to do. It was not clear to me who my client was, and which assignments I was to prioritize. The assignments were completely different in nature, e.g. drafting a government policy, market entry for an consumer goods company. Was pretty entertained when i woke up :)
