Do you guys share your salary with peers in the company to see if you are underpaid? In my group almost everyone knows each others salary. NY FSO

I think there's something to be said for transparency. Secrecy in salaries only serves to benefit the firm so that it can under pay employees. Once salaries are transparent it becomes much harder for the firm to pay comparable employees different wages. I don't openly seek out the information, but I share it if asked.

like

Agree Manager 1. I share mine every chance I get because I know there are some serious pay issues at the Manager and SM level. My old boss used to start our comp calls with "so how is my most underpaid team member doing?" And btw I'm a SM and I make $152k.

like

Thanks to FB not as many secrets! I bet the firms hate this app!

like

I'm an S3 and make $100K base ( before comp talk, BPP, ect) because I joined from a competitor firm. If my peers found out how much I make it would hurt their feelings and create jealousy. When one of my peers "bragged" about how much she made I just kept quiet because I make $20K more.

like

SM1 NYC fso adv at 182k (pre comp talk). 4 rtgs for past 5 yrs.

like

I don't share it. I just assume I'm underpaid. In all seriousness- it's a bad idea unless you're in a jurisdiction that is transparent by law.

like

I share

like

Sharing of salaries is nice, but if you find out you are underpaid you are going to be pissed as shit. Unless you KNOW you can leave and get more it will only cause heartache.

like

For Staff 1s growing up it won't matter anymore because they all get the same salaries and raises (or at least did in Central). Only differentiation is bravo awards.

like

The only reason you wouldn't share your salary is if you suspect you're overpaid. I don't know many high performers who are sensitive about sharing that information with someone at a comparable level

How much is the average raise this year for NY FSO tax professionals?

like

I don't like the whole sharing of salaries.

like

I used to share with most of my peers openly but some people are not that comfortable.

like

@EY1 SM and only making $152k? That just made me sad. I always assumed a SM made at least $180k. $$$ is my biggest motivator. Now I have nothing to look forward to.

like

We shared and I found out I'm highly underpaid. Just asked for a raise this week and seeking other options.

like

I agree with BDO 1. I don't want to know how much others at my rank make, and I do not disclose my salary for the same reason. Based on salary comp discussions here, I think I make above others at my rank in my city. I know I started higher than most of my college classmates.

like

After staff 1 I stopped sharing my salary. Something's are best kept personal

like

Illustrative example: if I'm making $100k and my peer is making $80k, would I rather us both make $90k so he/she is not underpaid? Hell the f no

like

Don't salaries depend on 1-5 rank? At least at pwc I think they do and then would beckon the question of why your peer got a rank higher / lower than you

Same same! I share when asked regardless of which level ask me. Figured even a staff should know what a manager makes to really gauge if they want to stick it out at the firm as long as I did.

The recruiter mentioned that since I am a contractor my current salary is incomparable as they will provide benefits, etc. Is this true? I have 2 yrs of contracting HR exp from fortunate 500 co’s & OMW to get my SHRM-CP. Appreciate your advice in advance.

I keep seeing those LinkedIn polls about how many people want to work from home permanently, and it makes me kinda sad. I know a lot of people really prefer working from home, but as a junior who only started working after the pandemic began, it feels so strange to not have an agency to go to. I know all my coworkers faces only from seeing them on Zoom, and only in the context of work-related conversations. I hope I’ll actually get the chance to experience normal agency culture.
