You can only have an HSA account if you are on a high deductible health insurance plan. Therefore, the people who should have one are those with a HDHP. It makes good financial sense to open an HSA if you have an HDHP.
Currently on HSA and high deductible plan. Planning for first kid next year, can someone suggest if staying on high deductible plan still makes sense based on their experience ?
totally depends on your plan, but the wife and I switched to a Cadillac plan for the birth of our two kids (in back to back years) and for one year after (lots of visits in the first year, until the can walk). Definitely thr right decision, even though we are quite healthy. She did a full knee replacement while we were on it too, with some incredible PT, so that was mother-effing icing on the health insurance cake!
Yes, always contribute to your tax free accounts! I wear glasses so if I have money left, I buy a new pair at year end. If you’re deciding where to put your $$, it may be more worth your while to check out tax free child care accounts if your company has one. Depending on your family leave policies, daycare can really add up!
