Do you have to prove how old your infant is in order to get maternity or paternity leave and is there a limit? My husband and I would like to stagger our leave.

We did have to send in the hospital's "kid was born" form to activate our baby-bonding leave. Google outsources handling of baby leave to a firm called Sedgwick, who asked for the proof-of-birth form. Fairly easy: emailed in a photo. We then each (my spouse is a Googler, too) got 3 months to use in one-week blocks, which all expire on the kid's first birthday. As the one who gave birth, my wife got additional pregancy/disability leave, in a separate but similarly low-stress process.

I don’t think any company is going to make you prove it, I could be wrong though

Oracle used to have a 1 year time frame. You can take parental leave 10weeks at anytime within the first year of your baby's arrival. 10weeks all at once or broken out in x+y+z =10weeks throughout the first year. Not sure how the benefits team checked on the 1 year. Your manager probably knows because most people are out the first week a baby arrives.

I believe the limit is within the first year. My husband took 4 weeks then took 2 weeks right before our child’s 1st birthday. It is a headache though i would not recommend it in blocks. You hsve to deal with HR, State disability (at least in CA - your state may vary) and any short term insurance claims.

Hi there, I have worked in healthcare for nearly 10 years, mostly scheduling patients and procedures, with 2 years experience in Credentialing, compliance and privileging. I'm now 6mo into parenting a wonderful and much loved and wanted baby girl. And even with all of the privilege of paid leave, excellent healthcare coverage, and an incredibly supportive and caring partner, this has been hard af. It's one thing to feeling make the decision to risk your life and endure all of the hardship, trauma and permanent body changes that this entails for a wanted child. But the idea of forcing someone through pregnancy and birth, with no support, is so incredibly horrific

Big Law Dads: How much time do you usually take off when your wife has a baby? And do you actually get to take off, or do you just end up working from home half the time? My wife is due Mid-December, and I’m staffed on 4 M&A deals trying to close by year end, so it’s not looking promising.

There's a clinic nearby doing walk-in coronavirus tests. Been thinking about getting one for peace of mind (paying out of pocket, outside of health insurance, to avoid the hassle). Is anyone here investing in NPS over and above 80C? If yes, is it worth it given that we can only redeem 60% as lumpsum and rest that we get as pension would be negligible due to inflation? Also, is it better to invest in multiple funds or just one? Lumpsum or SIP? P.S. - my tax bracket is 30% so finding ways to save tax.

I’m 30, with no kids, currently paying $540/mo for a whole life insurance policy through my advisor (family friend, mind you) at NWM. No debt, investing 2k a month into other more traditional investments (e.g., 401k, ira). I care less about the death benefit but I’ve been repeatedly reminded about the guaranteed RoR associated with the cash value - does this investment vehicle make sense to continuing with? TIA!

I overheard a small law firm owner saying he will never hire women because the last female attorney he hired ended up being pregnant, and left the firm immediately after her maternity leave was over. How is this kind of discrimination still going on? How could we address this? One thing I can think of is mandatory parental leave regardless of gender, but I doubt it’ll ever happen in the US.
