Don't just blurt it out.

No. I don’t tell people either. It’s tacky to bring up exact money you have. I think they get the idea that you do decently well if you’re an accountant.

like

I wouldn’t bring this up at the very beginning but if you’re dating and serious about each other I think it’s really important to be open and honest about your financial status and also your financial goals. If you and your partner don’t have similar goals then it might not be the right fit

I don’t talk about my own financial situation, but I definitely look for cues about the other persons.

I met my spouse at the firm - so from a money earned standpoint we were on “equal footing” so to speak. This has been really great for us both, as we are able to talk to each other about our problems and actually understand / empathize on a deeper level. We come from very different backgrounds though, and I find it tough to be around his family - this was the harder sell for me 🤣

If your talking like early dating stages then it’s none of their business. Which sounds like what your talking about. Obviously if it’s something your serious about you should talk about those things

Totally okay, even if you are a billionaire. Not okay the other way around though.

I’ve been in similar situation. If you are not comfortable disclosing your finance details, there is nothing wrong with it. You are financially successful and independent. I don’t see how that’s anyone’s business until you are in a serious relationship and consider getting married. But I wouldn’t try to come off as someone else either, like pretend to be poor.

Shameless company plug, sorry y’all. But Morgan Stanley just rolled the FRM Experienced Professionals Program. This program is designed to recruit and develop diverse professionals regardless of whether they have a background in Finance or Risk Management. If you’re interested just dm me. I made it out of kpmg and hopped over to MS and honestly so far I’m loving it. Also more black people in this space would really go a long way.

What is your opinion on GARP financial Risk Manager (FRM) certificate? I am considering taking it (as I am FS Risk Consulting), but I am not sure if it really carries benefits. Apparently it is quite a tough study. Is it worth the time or should I invest my time elsewhere? Also do you have learning material you are willing to share :D?
