Do you keep/put work you completed with last employers in a portfolio?

Context: I already have a freelance writing portfolio website. I was considering making a new tab for my professional work and link to (publicly available) writing I did at my previous job. During my job search I was asked a couple times for a portfolio but didn’t have anything for my “real job” - I just sent them links in email which they were all fine with. Just trying to be more professional overall for the future.

Of course. Absolutely. 100%.

If it's publicly available, you should be good.

People do totally burn bridges for sharing secret/NDA stuff, so probably don't do that.

Even for public stuff, I have heard of former employers with sour grapes making moves to force ex employees to remove stuff, but that's like once or twice in 20 years of doing this.

99.9% of the time, everyone does it, no one notices, or no one cares.

Yes yes yes! Anything that publishes that my hands and mind works on, is a part of my portfolio. Same for my resume. Doesn’t matter if I did it once

Are you asking if you should have two separate portfolios? One for your freelance writing projects and one for your full time writing projects? If so, why not just combine everything into one site with no separate tabs?

I've been struggling with this too! I'm still sending out links to publicly bylined work etc but I definitely want to make the process a little more professional down the line. Curious to see what others say

The PE culture is sick. The 20 something VP was rude to our partner because our team took thanksgiving and the day before off and it was in the engagement letter that we were gonna be off. He kept emphasizing that his team did our job while we were on a break. Dude we are not sick like you and we have lives. I see something about how s**t the PE culture is in every deal we support.

Like these sickos make fun of us for working 80+ hours weeks for them and taking thanksgiving off.

I'm so stressed and nearing my limit 😪. My design partner for several years now, loves to pretend she's the CD and markup my work. Historically I've let it slide because she has good suggestions. But lately she outright changes my copy and tells me later. I'm easygoing and they're good suggestions so I try to ignore but its getting worse and borderline disrespectful. We work exclusively together so if I rock the boat its going to get even more uncomfortable. What would you do?

I am applying to more positions through staffing agencies as one way to get a writing job. When they tell me the hourly rate and I suggest a few dollars higher per hour, they'll say, "Just so you know, the competition is priced lower than you."

Is this to scare me into submission to charge less so that they can profit more? Or is an employer really not going to pick me because I am priced 1-$2 more per hour than someone else? Wdyt?

I think I’ll be a Senior CW soon, but it feels like most folks my age (30) have been in that role for a bit or already past it. Since I can’t turn back time, any tips for catching up?
