Do you leave a tip in your hotel room when using points for a personal trip? Do you leave a tip everyday or just the day when you check out? Not used to this US tipping thing

Tip the maids any day you get cleaning service. Tip daily as staff changes daily. True for any travel purpose — they need the money whether you’re traveling for work or for pleasure.

like

Only when there’s exceptional service. Or someone pukes in my room

like

Tips always at the end of a stay (business or pleasure). Not much, US 5-10 (5 if personal, 10 if business as I can expense)

like

P1 is actually correct re leaving daily due to switching staff. I know to do it, just normally don’t and leave the tip when I check out

like

Always leave a tip. For work, $5/day. If on personal it’s $10-$20 a day

like

Green choice usually, so no

like

Never left tips like that. I do tip people who help me with my luggage

like

I don’t. I realize it is a tough job. But I have no desire to encourage Marriott and other brands to continue to pay people less by assuming I give them tips to supplement income.

like

Honestly probably only 5-10% of people actually tip the maids

like

If that’s accurate it’s very sad

like

How do you expense a tip for hotel?

like

You tippers realize that staff who also receive tips often get below minimum wage right? Waitresses make like $3/hour Bc employers argue they make a lot more in tips. Don’t encourage this BS - it’ll just lower the wages for hotel staff over time

like

I really try hard to have cash on hand to leave a tip for hotel staff whenever I travel (personal or business). Our policy lets us expense it, but sometimes I forget to charge it in. To me, the extra 5-10 doesn’t mean much, but to the person receiving it, it might. So I tip away and encourage others to do the same

The hourly rates seem reasonable. Let’s keep it that way

Yes tipping has become a norm regardless of wage. Washington State min wage is like $10, in Seattle it's now $15 (applies to servers), and most people tip on top of the bill at least 20%

Hey everyone! Recent transplant (26 F) who moved here during Covid (family reasons) so still not quite familiar with the areas. I’m currently living in Brentwood but looking to move. I tried searching here but didn’t see a lot - what is the reputation of Mar Vista (and if possible - how is that different than Brentwood?). All opinions welcome! 🙂
