Please don’t let the opinions of others influence your decision on when to bring a life into this world. I highly doubt anyone would say “Karen is pregnant?! She hasn’t even been here a year!” Def. check their mat leave policy but who cares about a bad look.
How embarrassing and tacky of them. Honestly good for her for hiding it. She probably wouldn’t have gotten the job had she disclosed it prior.
Don’t worry about appearances. At all. Plan based on maternity policy and what’s right for your family. If people judge, that’s their issue. You can choose to value yourself and your life above petty opinions.
I would never judge any woman about when she gets pregnant. I’m childless by choice. Make the decision that’s best for you. Don’t worry about the noise.
Some couples look at each other and get pregnant. Others it takes a lot or a little longer. You don’t know where you will fall in that spectrum so if kids are what you want don’t let starting a new job hold you back.
Depends on maternity coverage, which may not kick in (including FMLA) until you’ve been employed 12 mos. make sure you check before making any decisions!
Absolutely not. I had the same concerns, mentioned it, and while waiting to schedule the next interview was ghosted. This has happened several times. Companies will use it against you, even if they claim to be family-friendly. You’re not pregnant now, and even if you’re planning to be soon, it may not happen for a while. Don’t mention it until it happens, and even then, it’s your prerogative to share at whatever time you want. Like Edelman 1 said though, FMLA does not kick in until after 12 months, and even then, only applies to employers who are a certain size (last I checked it was 50+ employees within a 50-mile radius). It sounds cynical, but watch out for yourself, because the agency is only looking out for themselves.
I’m starting a new job while super pregnant. The world is changing out there! Don’t let people being butthurt about your choices hold you back from something like this. Maternity leave is just a blip (esp since we’re in the US) in the grand scheme and I’m a better worker now that I am a mom.
Thats the exception not the norm. I have had companies ghost when I told them far in the process that I was pregnant. Short term thinking. I figure I’m better off that I didn’t work there if that’s how they were thinking
I don’t think it looks bad at all, at the end of the day, getting pregnant may take time, and also 9 months on top of that. So if you think about it that’s at least 10 months in your new role which is not too early. I think you should get pregnant when you and your partner wants to. Everyone else will understand! At my company, we have maternity leaves all the time. Its definitely a good thing to do some research on your maternity leave coverage just so you have an understanding on the policy. Good Luck!!
Noooooooooooooooooo. This time goes by so fast. Be a hard working, be indispensable, have clear boundaries as soon as you start.
I got a new job and starting trying after 4ish months so I wouldn’t give birth until after the 1yr mark for fmla reasons. It ended up taking two more months to conceive and then I didn’t tell work until another 3months - so I was 9+months in at my job before anyone knew. By that time I had already proven myself and was a known quantity in the agency and no one batted an eye. I’ve worked with multiple people who have accepted and quit jobs in shorter timeframes. Do the smart thing interms if full benefits and fmla but don’t put your life plans on hold because of work!
I waited in order to grow my and now it’s too late for me to have children. And I’m not even a creative director
*grow my career
Personally, I would wait to get off probation just to be safe. But otherwise I would go for it!
You’re a human being. Live your life. The right place will respect that.
