Automated regular contributions into low cost index funds. Set it and forget it. Just add consistently and hold over 30 years. Actively managed funds rarely (if ever) do better than the market as a whole. Max 401k and Roth (or Traditional) IRA and brokerage all go into VTI, SPY, QQQ in that order

Jokes apart, I like the thrill
401k by financial advisor. All other investments myself - partly because I enjoy it, partly because I am able to tailor my desired risk/return better
My financial advisor has been getting me good returns for the risk profile of that portfolio, and his fees are not high (0.5%). I tend to invest in higher risk opportunities in both Private Equity and more liquid assets with significantly higher returns (averaged 45% per year). Like to keep both to diversify risks. While I have played with the idea of managing both myself, always come to the conclusion that I have no time to worry about managing the two. For reference, 401k is about the same size (slightly smaller) than the sum of my other investments. Do you manage your investments differently? Why?
I am running a lean minimalistic investment strategy. Which means, I am poor.
