Do you need a cover letter when applying for a job through a legal recruiter? How do you know if a recruiter is good?

I’m a recruiter. You don’t need a cover letter. As far as figuring out if a recruiter is good, most associate recruiters aren’t. Ask them questions about the job/firm. Most likely they are working from a database that other recruiters have access to so it’s fine to shop around. But a good recruiter knows the firm and asks good questions about your practice and career so they can present/market you best. Bad recruiters just take your resume and send it to 20 firms with generic email.

I had recently interviewed for TIAA for the position of BI analyst but failed to crack the SQL round of interview due to my nervousness. I am really pressed and demotivated after my rejection.I made sure to be prepared in SQL and I wish to be interviewed in TIAA again. Will they consider my profile again?

I’m interviewing 2Ls for a summer associate position at my firm, and today I received a cover letter that was FOUR pages long and went on and on about the kid’s medical history from high school and beyond, dropping in the fact that he lost his mother at a young age, and saying that this was why his grades were low. Mind you, his transcript wasn’t required to be sent so I wouldn’t have known he had bad grades. He didn’t even say anything about the position! It read like a college entrance essay 😵‍💫

Mid level atty in a fast moving case. Earlier this year jrs brought on the team to help lessen work flow. Both partner and I delegate certain tasks, esp when we’re super busy. Junior goofed regarding deadlines (which I had to ask for twice); now partner is stressed, tho we should be able to lock in an extension. Jr took ownership of the slip up. I owned that I should have checked his work, but I feel that I hurt my rep. w partner. What to do? Lay low? Not a fan of throwing ppl under bus.
