Do you need a visa to work remotely for a US employer if you’re living in another country and working from home? Any US tax implications? Canadian here.

You don’t “need” a visa. Visa only impacts your eligibility to work within the US. If you’re working from outside, the US immigration laws have no jurisdiction over you. However, in that instance you are most likely going to have to work on the payroll of a local non-US entity. Only rarely would you have a US employer accept remote employment as a matter of routine (I.e. not a one off or a short term arrangement).

You only need a visa to get into a country, and the type of visa depends on why you’re entering the country. So no visa needed in your case, but you employer does need a local presence to be able to hire you as an employee where you live. The alternative to that would be to bring you on as a contractor, but that can get complicated as well depending on local laws where you live.

Guys, just got the notification my I-140 has been approved. How much longer to expect the AOS application and receiving the GC? Applied on L1-A visa.

When you are in the US and your spouse is abroad, how do you file I-145 together? (AOS vs. Consular processing) Spouse is not able to get dependent visa due to consulate closures but PD might come before that could happen. Will be reaching out to lawyers too, but wanted to check if anyone had done this before, thanks!
