No, but I do expect that you have expertise in some capacity that will greatly accelerate how quickly you can learn a new product. I just hired two new PMs, both owned startups. PM1’s startup was in the same space that our team is developing new products, and PM2’s startup wasn’t. Neither knew AWS. Both are good PMs. However, PM1 is leaps and bounds ahead because of their prior experience, and even though they’re still learning our stack, they are developing the product as they learn —- it’s been impressive

Much better to have knowledge of the customer than the product.
Product expertise doesn't make one a good product manager. Sometimes it can get in the way of improving things
Super question and would even like to know everyone thoughts/feedback
Applied number of firms but seems expectations for them to have experience either salesforce or e-commerce etc..

Essentially, you need to have enough familiarity to know how to learn and navigate the product, even if you don’t know it currently.
How do I demonstrate the ability to learn and navigate a product in an interview without prior PM exp?
This is really helpful for determining the kind of stories I should prepare. Thank you.
