Is the promotional structure in Big 4 TAS/FDD similar to how it is in Big 4 Audit? E.g. 2 yrs at associate, 2-3 yrs at senior, etc?
Or is it more merit based where you’re promoted when ready, e.g. 1-1.5 yrs at associate, 1.5-2 yrs at senior, etc?

I’m a lawyer in B4 tax with 2 yoe about to make senior in June. Would it be foolish to throw all that away to switch into an entirely different practice area of law (not tax)? Would it be better to wait until senior to make that switch?

How does PERMs work for non-technical, common roles? Like I know there’s a lot or people who’d want to work for big 4 or tech firms (ex. Tech firm senior auditor roles, there’s probably a lot of applicants with similar backgrounds) - in this case I find it hard to believe that they won’t find a qualified applicant since those roles are so popular / experience standard is not as rigorous.. is it common for PERMs to fail?

Honestly I don’t think agencies are going to exist the way they do 15-20 years from now. The way they operate is designed for burn out for employees. I’ve worked at a total of 5 agencies across Chicago and NYC, and things end up always being toxic and the work life balance is just not sustainable nor justifiable when I look back.
